Need advice

Sorry if this thread is in the wrong place but i don't know where else to put this. Let me start off by saying this is an AC problem and need suggestions. My car crapped out on my in december of 2011 and ended up getting a replacement engine because i was still under warranty. The AC unit was working fine before it crapped out but 3 months after the repair i brought it in to the dealership and they said i have a high side low side leak.(I barely turned on the AC) I first went in and they said that the leak was caused by charging up the compressor which eventually caused a leak. So i let it go and still haven't got my AC fixed because they want 600$ from my pockets. Now a friend of mine told me to go back and demand them to fix it because it was working fine before the new engine then 2 months later it didn't work and he stated that they could have caused the leak. My problem now is should i go back even though it happened a few months ago and tell them to fix it or fork up cash to pay it. Do you think i can find a place to replace the part for cheaper than 600$?

Thanks

Yes, the forum suggestion subforum is the wrong place to look for troubleshooting help.

However, the Troubleshooting subforum is more appropriate: Trouble Shooting - RX8Club.com

I'll see if a mod can move it for you.

The short story is that unless you can point to something like line damage caused during the engine replacement (unlikely but possible) as the source of the leak, you won't get Mazda to acknowledge it. Now, 3 months or more since the engine replacement, you won't get them to acknowledge that the problem existed when they gave the car back to you.

However, the AC system is pretty standard. No reason you should have to use a dealer to repair, and you can get better labor rates and parts prices at an independent repair shop. Find a quality mechanic that knows AC systems and get a 2nd opinion.
