My first CEL
Two years plus of happy driving and now I have a CEL.
Rev counter was bouncing up and down when I started it, hasnt done this before but I figured maybe it was the cold. Loaded everyything in and drove off about 5 mins later. I couldnt get it to rev above 3000rpm with a lovely max speed of 11mph!
Turned around and got the car back into the driveway and restarted. Everything seemed to run fine but CEL light is still on. I called the dealer who said bring it in on Monday morning (this was saturday afternoon) and said just keep driving it unless the CEL started flashing or it wouldnt go above 3000rpm again.
From what I searched I guess the 3000rpm is the limp home mode? Im glad it wasnt far from home when it happened or it would have been a very slow limp!
So my baby is sitting at the dealer and I have a little Mazda3 loaner with a great license plate "Mazda".
Recall was done a few months ago and everything has been fine up until now. Will update when they say what it is.

Did it go into limp mode again after you restarted the car? The rpms bounce usually when the MAF is dirty/bad. What's the mileage? It could've also been bad plugs or coils.

Didnt go into limp mode again, and seem to run fine. Car has just over 24,000 miles on it.
Dealer called last night to say they had a found a few different codes but werent sure exactly what the real issue was and so they wanted to keep it overnight. They just called again to say it needs a new oil metering pump which is ordered but with the little storm we are supposed to get in the Northeast that it might not make it tomorrow. So I get to spend a few days with my Mazda3 by the looks of it.
Will get the actual codes and info when I get the car back.

that kinda sucks since the recall retune the omp it makes me think there will be a lot more pumps going out on us unless they were built to take the extra punch in the backside to deliver more oil into the engine.don't get me wrong i love my 8 i just think we have a few silly recalls that affect other things not taken into consideration when changed! i will drive untill the wheels fall off...then get some new rims again and drive it some more!!gotta love it.we get smacked in the face after we bought it and then smacked again when it breaks.i really don't like getting smacked but i love driving my 8

Update
Dealer just called - still no part! So 'maybe' ready on Monday.
Not very impressed with the service at the moment. It will be a week for this one part. Dont know if its the dealer thats slacking off or Mazda NA.
