When ever the leads on the machines that I run at work go bad due to heat/current they turn white instead of the bronze color that there were new and bond to make what would look to be a solid wire instead of a braided wire. The reason I say this is because I make wire. The wire I make is annealed using an annealer system that is comprised of 4 annealers that use about 300 amps @ 36 volts. Doent sound like much but the leads can withstand over 600F and still get roasted from time to time. They are not, however, insulated with a plastic compound as the coils are in the picture. When a lead from the transformer that supplies the power to the annealers goes bad, it will turn white. It will still work to a degree but not very efficiently. Has anyone pried through the plastic on one that has turned white to see if that is what happened? I can tell you all that, in most cases, if the plastic has turned white, the coils are in the process of failing. I would like to know more info on the coils to further help.
