MY car Wont start. then it will. now it wont.
Car 2005 Auto
107k Miles.
No accidents, flooding, or Homeless men having a soup kitchen in it.
Red ( you never know when the little things matter.)
The Problem. It wont start. No duh right?
Well it wont start with any consistency and when it does start it usually dies when you put it into gear.
When it does start it usually sounds rough.
It does misfire from time to time when it does misfire it misfires A lot.
But some times it starts up smoothly and runs smoothly for five minutes then dies with no codes showing up.
Usually when it dies. the throttle body is whining and is locked closed.
And it Always starts when you have the battery disconnected for more then a day Which is the only consistent thing that happens.
Occasionally a random code pops up.
like the one where i forgot to fully shut my gas tank.
and once it came up and said both my throttle position sensors were bad.
What has happened to the car so far.
it has been to 3 dealers and 2 independent mechanics
no one could figure out what the problem is.
But for ***** and giggles after i got the car back from all those places. it took about 2 months total.
I have replaced
the Battery (twice just to be sure the new one i got wasnt defective)
spark plugs.
spark plug wires.
Ignition coils.
Throttle body.
MAP sensor. ( initially this was making the CEL light up.)
and i cleaned the Ess sensor because i was bored.
The Compression came back fine
Somethings that were put on but taken off when nothing got fixed.
O2 sensors. (no idea why the dealer did that)
a new computer.
Alternator.
And i have been checking all the wiring nonstop....
If there is some big thing i have missed and you know what is wrong with it please halp me? also i can take pictures. possibly video of whats going on and how it sounds if that would help.
And i am sure i have missed something i did to the car. but if i remember i will post

I do not know the code numbers that came up. i just remember the issues that came up. i do not have a reader myself but i am getting one.
Is there a way with out part swapping to tell if the fuel pump is bad?
it does atleast try to work you can hear it start when you turn the key.
so fuel pump will be moved to number one on the list of what to try.
I did do the 20 brake pedal stomp. i saw that posted on the forums i dont know why one does that but i did it regardless.

Just to throw this out there, you might want to check your fuel resistor and see if it is working. You can find it under the air pump on the passenger side. The wire supplying power to mine was all burned out and caused me some issues.
