In fact it was only days after my 30k service; I was on the parkway Christmas eve with my rpm’s around 7 grand and the engine just started breaking up. The engine light kicked in and after taking my foot of the gas and costing in neutral the light went out but it would continue every time I brought my rpm’s up over 6. I felt like I was running on half my engine. At first I thought it might be plugs and wires but when I took the air box off I found the exact same problem I see in Ur pics.
As far as I’m concerned, this isn’t an existing problem, I would have seen it … this is new and I am pushing my dealer for a total fix.
Today I dropped it off. They haven’t had a chance to look at it yet but I will keep U informed of events. where could I get my hands on that tech artical?
Regards.

thanks,, but this is the fix for the dipstick.. that was taken care of the first winter I had my 8. this says nothing about oil in the intake manifold. however I am printing out the entire thing and will go over it to see if I have missed something.

This TSB has been updated recently. The old fix was a different dipstick and sleeve.

The new fix is moving the oil gases exhaust line from the top of the oil fill to the intake manifold instead of the flexible tube that is before the throttle body.

It pertains to '04 and '05 models.

I went over the update this morning and I can see where it could have benifits here. I showed the update to my dealers service tech just a little while ago and he disputes that it is for the problem I am having. But, I have to take that with a grain of salt because he also told me my car runs like a champ and there is no hesitation, breaking up at high RPM,,,, nothing and I know that's not true. at least we both agree that the oil in the intake in not good, natural for this engine or acceptable. He states intentions to contact mazda and I'll get my anwser after the new year.

Also to be noted:
I found that the plugs were shot, espcially the leading ones. In adition to that, the #2 rotor plugs were rusted and curroded on the wire contact ends. The tech is going to replace the wires but I am wodering of a disruption in the firing of the #2 plug set could have offset the inner workings of the engine in some manner and created the intake oil problem? the two did apear together. it is only logical that they be concidered posibly conected.
Happy New Year to every one here.. I'll keep U posted.
And, Thanks.

I'm having the mentioned TSB done to my car along with a laundry list of other things. I printed up the TSB and handed it to my Service Rep along with the list that mentions my problems and why the TSB is there. He was taken back almost by the entire deal which made me smile on the inside.

Reason I brought the car back was that after all this, they replaced my air filter and recleaned the air intake and gave me a free oil change to relevel my oil if you will,... they under filled my car.

Today my tech said since having the car the low oil light hasnt come on so I believe they arnt going to redo the oil change or add oil. I know there is a TSB for that known issue (low oil light but oil lv is fine) but my car is outa the VIN range (but the oil is 'bout 1/8" above the low marker so I dunno). Any help on that aspect from anyone would be pissa.. thanks lata.

Take a wild guess man... Called up Wellsley but they couldnt take me for another 2 days. That and I found out they close 2 hours earlier than Gallery. Printed up the TSB(s) and shut Drew up fast by saying "Yeah my car is within the build and Vin range I already checked.". Pretty much just shoved the notion of "I know what the f**k I'm talking about pissant!" down his throat. After the low oil light came on for the 3rd time under normal driving I just lost it, printed up some TSB's and told him "Here is the list of things I want done and are wrong with my car.. here are the TSB's to fix 'em.. now where is my rental bytch!" (ok not word for word but my attitude through my sickness was there needless to say. That of being completly fed up.).

well All,,
the verdict is in at my dealership and now they are telling me that I have lost an Apex Seal. A far cry from telling me it ran like a champ on friday. Some times it's better not to fight with them when they are wrong and let them figure it out for them selves. The good news is that they are replacing my motor and it's all under waranty. The bad news is they clame not to know why it happend and it could happen again.
Hey,, any one know where I can get a triple?
Regards to all.

news flash,
I still dont have my car back!
acourding to the dealer the motor is in and working great. However, they say my cat is cleaned out and asked if I gutted it. I told them no and they are ordering me a new cat. it will be here in a week.
now my service guy seems to think that the honeycomed inside clogged up the exaust when it decintergreated and the back pressure is what cause the apex seal to let go. And, in theory, the oil in the air intake system was a result of it as well.
SO,,, if U are haveing the same trouble as I did U might want to drop Ur cat and see what it looks like. I was lucky my 8 is under warranty, not every one's is.
Regards.
