In first as I am easing off the clutch it makes this winding noise. If i give it more gas its louder and sometimes it doesn't do it. i was thinking maybe the clutch spinning against the flywheel but should you be able to here that from inside the car?

 

Take it to 9k and side step the clutch this will also help with your problem of getting off the line faster.

 

Do you notice it more when the car is cold?

 

Yes the clutch could be slipping, or it could be a bad throw bearing/idler bearing.

Honestly from what you have described it could be a lot of things.

Yes you can hear things like bearings from the clutch or transmission from inside the car, especially if they are failing.

Take it to a trusted mechanic
