Misfiring After new plugs?!

So i just bought my rx8 a week ago and it began misfiring at high Rpms in 2nd well its a/t but you guys no what i mean so my check engine light came on and turns out the dealership had the wrong spark plugs in it :wallbash: so i changed them out and everything was fine then yesterday while driving in second i just barely got to 6k rpm and the check engine flashed yet again and now it just stays on any ideas ?

How many miles on the ignition coils and are the spark plug wires on properly?

J03K1LLARX8 04-11-2011 03:35 PM

sounds like a plug might of been damaged or a wire was fried or even a coil.

when i had a misfire i needed new coils and relpaced them with the BHR ignition kit.

car has 80k about and who knows when or if they were even changed so i should change wires and coils ?

J03K1LLARX8 04-11-2011 04:04 PM

damn bro its way over due for some new coils. :yesnod:

NuRx-8 04-11-2011 04:17 PM

suggestions on a place to get coils I am kind broke right now but obviously need them

NuRx-8 04-11-2011 04:22 PM

mind as well do the wires too huh?

J03K1LLARX8 04-11-2011 04:24 PM

give me a sec. a buddy of mines gots some for very cheap and he should get back to me soon.

J03K1LLARX8 04-11-2011 04:31 PM

my friend said he went to the dealership cuz they were cheapest there but prices have changed. so it should be about 175 or more. if you can afford it go with the BHR kit. best investment i made.

if you get the new stock coils i suggest you install them yourself. saves you money and it will take less then an hour to get it done. theres a DIY in here if you search it. ;)

Order the coils from advance auto. I just got mine from there a few weeks ago. They're about $25 a piece. Do the same with wires, although I dunno how much those cost. Where exactly do you live, I'm probably pretty close to you?

J03K1LLARX8 04-11-2011 04:45 PM

good luck dude. hope i helped.

you may also want to get the code read at an autozone or somewhere, just to be sure. It's free there ;)

Razz1 04-11-2011 07:18 PM

First thing to do is to read code. Reset the ECU to clear the code.

Then see if it it comes back.

Repeat again.

After having the same problem 3 times you know that you will have to fix it

Remember... having the wrong plugs in there can make it build up extra fuel and residue. That's probably what is causing your car to misfire.

NuRx-8 04-12-2011 03:38 PM

Yeah I stay on ten mile and gratiot eastside of detroit about yeah autozone had the coils for 25 each but can't get the wires? go figure. And i usually try and do everything myself cus you just can't trust some mechanics now a days i got the error code 300 and then it misfired again when i was at about 6.25 k rpms in 2nd a/t mode bu i wasn't gunning it. but i haven't felt a misfire again so i have to wait to get paid next week before i can do anything sadly and yeah the wrong spark plug BS really pissed me off frickin dealership :( I love my new car its just costing me more than i can afford right out the gate. But pretty girls always do

NuRx-8 04-12-2011 03:39 PM
