Mice in the fans

So I got an rx8 that was sitting for awhile, everything works perfectly but the car is undrivable...

When you turn the car on the fans work slightly, causing a STENCH coming from the blowers.. and oh man if you put the fans to 1 the smell is undescribable, like someone had diarrhea inside the vents. Anyways, we opened up the passenger cabinet and took it apart and there was lots of mice poop, all cleaned up and the car still smells the same.

How can I block the mice from entering any of the vent areas just incase they are still around? Also where should i begin with cleaning the poop smell?

Thanks a lot and sorry for the disturbance.

might have to take the whole dash apart and remove the vent system from the car and clean it, or get all new vent ducts,

If one of them bought the farm in your HVAC ducts the smell is going to be around for a while.

Especially in Winter, you should be sure the ventilation setting is on the Recirculate or Inside Air mode. The Fresh or Outside Air mode opens a vent door to the engine compartment that stays open when you shut it off.
Many members report finding mice nests on top of the cabin air filters.
