NY Major Problem With Engine

Was driving the car and i heard a pop out of the exhaust. And the car cnt keep idle and when it does for how short of a time the rpms bounce up and down. My AFR is between 18 and 21 at idle. I reset the ecu and no luck its even worse. Please help i need the car for tommarow and it stalls every time im off the gas!!

Unfortunately, that very much sounds like a loss of compression, possibly due to a sudden seal failure. How is the gas mileage? Power delivery?

Might be worth getting a compression test done.

It feels like it boggs down in the begining and then it goes back to normal when im generous with the accelerator. I got it to keep idle but the rpms go up and down up and down

sounds like a trip to the dealership is in order.
your engine is still under the 8 year / 100k warranty.

sounds to me like a compression issue to be honest

you would want to remove the CAI, Cobb, and possibly the pulleys before going to the dealership or they could blame your mods for any troubles you're having.

Any previous issues with the car we should know about?
hard starting?
over heating?

clutch & flywheel won't matter as they won't notice that until after they've performed the initial diagnostics: checking cat, compression, coils.

could be the fuel pump but not being able to hold IDLE is an odd one as there isn't that much fuel being used at that time...

last time coils, wires, plugs were changed?
do you still have a stock cat on?

Several issues it could be, Jedi is addressing most of them.

The inability to hold idle, and have to keep the revs up is usually a sign that there isn't enough compression at low RPM (compression increases the higher up the rev range you get)

You can keep an rotary running without seals at all if you keep the revs high enough, but it won't idle at all.

That plus the AFRs being really really really lean, to me says lots of excess air just bypassing and going straight to the exhaust, which would be the case with a blown seal, squeezed out as it is trying to be compressed.

Yeah, everything is pointing at blown engine to me. Cat is the only thing left unknown, but that usually is top end power loss, not the low end.

From a dealer, roughly $5,000 - $6,000.

But you can get a good rebuilt engine from Mazmart for about $3,400 I think, lower quality engines for cheaper than that. Rebuilds on your current engine start around $1,200. None of that is including shipping or removal/installation costs. Depends on how close you are and how much you can do yourself there.

Whether he can be successful fighting it, I have no idea. But it sounds like he has already been down that road. And if it was the AP that they used as the reason, he doesn't have much to stand on.

Yeah, could be a cat issue. The rest of the issues don't sound like a cat problem, but this might be.

has your warranty been officially voided? is your VIN flagged or the dealership just told you once that your mods void your warranty?

unless the VIN is flagged in the system, you could try another dealership.
What have you got to lose...

New Engine

My problem started with oil in the anti-freeze (kiss of death). Car still running great though. Took it to dealership and now I am getting a new engine. Only 62,000 miles on this fun piece of junk. Good luck.
