Loss of power + rattling so i have a bad cat

My mechanic figured out was wrong with my 8, its a bad cat so i was going to order this from Racing Beat

RX8: Exhaust - Race Pipes: Catalytic Converter Replacement Pipe - 04-11 RX-8 -

but then he said its not the right one, whats he talking about? this is right isnt it?

Atilla 08-10-2012 12:05 PM

^sounds like you need to sell me your front bumper :D:

lol - jk jk

I'm assuming he means it's not a replacement cat converter...that's a mid/race pipe aka Cat DELETE pipe. Maybe he was just warning you it won't pass emissions. :dunno:

A.Mair 08-10-2012 12:23 PM

lol about the bumper

he did say about the check engine light, but i knew about that already with having this from RB.

If i get this Atilla though will it be okay you think?

A.Mair 08-10-2012 02:20 PM

all good i ordered it

That pipe will be LOUD and I believe raspy. Racing beat has a very nice dual resonated midpipe that is $365 it is only $95 more and well worth it. If I were you I would either get the racing beat dual res or the BHR midpipe, nothing else really compares. The bare minimum BHR pipe raises the price to $450 though.

I went the cheap route and bought an agency power midpipe for ~$200 and it actually sounds pretty good once you get beyond 4k rpms. Around 3500-4500 it has a really nasty resonating sound that is either from the midpipe or from the stock exhaust paired with it. Either way it sounds like crap around those rpms.

Also remember to not throw away your old messed up cat, it is worth money to the right people because of the platinum that it creates inside it from use.

Thanks for the info. I also plan on getting the racing beat exhaust soon

DarkBrew 08-12-2012 07:16 PM

I tried a REV8 with a straight mid pipe it is LOUD!!! and stinky.
I'm running with a high flow cat welded into the same mid pipe and the same REV8 and it sounds great!

xexok 08-12-2012 07:43 PM

Darkbrew did the midpipe have any resonators at all or were you running the same thing he said he bought? Not sure if I have heard an 8 before that had just the pipe and no resonators or anything. I know my ap midpipe is pretty damn loud to me so I cant really imagine a straight pipe there.

A.Mair 08-12-2012 08:26 PM

I emailed Racing Beat to see iif I can change it. To the resonated one. I knew it was ggoing to be louder but wasn't aware it was really louder. Ill see what they say.

I tried to find aa sounds clip but I cant find one anywhere.

xexok 08-12-2012 09:06 PM

Maybe it wont be crazy loud. I think it will have a dirtier sound to it though. Here is a clip of that pipe but with a greddy sp2 exhaust of course cameras cant really do justice to an exhaust note so I dunno.

Ah cool thanks dude

A.Mair 08-12-2012 09:36 PM

I'm really tempted to ask Racing Beat to add on their header to my order too

No resonators at all. It was a RP super pipe with a gutted cat.
I ended up getting a Davesport cat welded in just ahead of the O2 bung.

I posted somewhere here what it sounds like.
