Loss of Power on hill?

i read another thread stating that if im going up a hill and i notice a drop in power that my cat is clogged...

but i can drive through hills fine and i have no loss in power, but if im at a light or at any kind of stop and on an incline my start is very sluggish.

also i have a check engine for a small evap leak if that makes any difference.

so my question is, are these symptoms of a clogged cat?

Need some more information; year, mileage, and any work done to the engine. The small evap leak is probably the gas cap.

Yep........guessing gas cap as well, but would need the code for sure. Guessing the other issue is probably coil/plug time?????? Need the info as stated above.

Has it ever been flooded? Did you get new? Are you using prem gas? When there is a loss of power does it sound different? Where do you live it's not listed? Is it heat related...only on hot days. How many miles on spark plugs and coils? Does it idle smooth?

Old Rotor: i believe im the second owner, i had it for about a month now... i have never flooded it.

and yes i alwayz use premium gas, when there is a loss of power it just sounds as if its going to stall so i just keep revving it until it picks ups.

i live in NC, on a daily basis highs are around 90 an lows are high 70's, i dunno if its really heat related i do most of my driving during peak heat hours... so im not sure.

i have yet to change the plugs since my ownership... idle is pretty steady +/- 50ish, idles more roughly with a/c on but thats no shocker.

do you know when the spark plugs WERE changed? to be safe, they are to be changed every 30,000 miles. if they have NEVER been changed, your plugs are most likely very dirty.

At 57k, I'd change the coils/plugs/wires all at the same time.

When my car was at normal operating temp and going up hill i could not go past 65 mph. The car would make the marbles in the can sound. I brought the car to the dealership and at first they thought the cat went again. The follow day later i was informed my car was getting a new engine. Mazda said when the car was at operating temp the apex seals would not seal correctly. Make sure you have the service manager test drive the car with you in it. I brought my car to the dealer when i was having the problem so they could see what i was talking about. If you leave the car overnight they will not notice a problem.
