Limp mode after changing OMP
 

Hi. I'm living in Korea and have 2004 RX-8 manual tranny.
There's no Mazda dealer in Korea and only about 30 RX-8 owners in Korea as far as I know except expatriates’ of US military. It means I can’t expect proper technical support if I have inherent trouble of rotary engines.

Recently, I have trouble with oil metering pump and I need your help. The history is below.

I found oil leaks from oil metering pump. It seems that Oil leaks from metering pump body and I thought the only solution is changing it. I purchased used metering pump in Korea fortunately and changed it last Saturday. After install used OMP, battery and etc, my car seems to be in limp mode. Engine revs up very slowly.

Significant thing which may cause limp mode during replacement job is this. Black connector of used OMP had broken so I replaced it by my original OMP’s.

I searched forum and realized this connector is positioning switch.
Before changing positioning switch, I found both OMP have white paint marks on them. It seems that it means some kind of alignment marking between pump body and positioning switch. I installed positioning switch in original marking position rather than used one’s.
I think this makes trouble and according to this thread, I should turn this switch slightly to fix my trouble.

Should I do this while engine idle? Or engine stop? If I should do this while engine stop, it would be Try and error… bothersome…

Anyway, please advise me. Any kind of advise, information, your experiences would be helpful to me. Thanks.

since English isn't your primary language here is the basic run down:

do it with the engine stopped, start by positioning the switch full counterclockwise, then make small incremental position changes in the clockwise direction by trial and error until it resolves the issue (assuming it does)

I am having the same problem with mine also, but just barely got it from my older brother, and it went to limp mode once in a while. So i called and ask my bro have he experienced this before, he reply yes he have, take it to the shop its says something about secondary hose. My CEL came on, my car started to limp once in a while. Like after a long drive then it went limp mode? any suggestion? ( btw im new here )

Get the code read so you know what the problem is.

how go i get the code? Take it, to the shop or i could figure it out? Need a scanner?

Yes you need a scanner. Autozone, advance auto parts could get your code read for free (assuming that you can drive the car).

I call and ask auto zone they dont rent it out, havent take it to auto parts yet. Yes i could drive it still like after a long run then i turn it off it went limp mode. But i RV i turb it off for like 15 to 20 mins it runs good again but my CEL came on still. Took the battery out reset n it was good but then CEL CAME BACK ON.

Just drive there and ask them to read your code. They do not rent it...It is free.
