so i have been noticing a gas smell in my car lately after filling up with gas. wasnt sure what it was.. today the ups man comes and points out that there is a big puddle of gas under my car. (i filled it up with gas just 10 minutes prior) so i took out my back seat and noticed that there was a puddle of gas above my gas tank as you can see in the pictures and i turned my car on and gas was being pumped out from the elbow piece that i have circled with the green color in my photos and has the red arrow pointing at it. how do i fix or seal this connector piece?

I have not seen anything in the forum as far as repairing your fuel pump. People just buy a new one. Bhr would be an option.

So you don't think it's possible to just get a new elbow piece? That's a bummer. I don't want to replace the whole pump if nothing is wrong with it.

Just from those pictures, it's hard to tell which part is the problem. I would think the elbow is cheaper, so I would replace that first. Then, try the fuel pump assembly. I am thinking it will end up being the pump assembly that will end up being the problem.
Repairing it, I don't see as an option. You are getting the fuel coming out of the pump at pressure. I can't think of a repair that would hold up.
Here is the parts diagram from one business that supplies the parts on-line ( http://onlinemazdaparts.com/parts/20...iagram=5455560 ). You also may be able to get one from a forum sponsor Mazmart.

I have not compared the price of the BHR pump assembly with that of a rebuilt one. However, the BHR pump was designed for two purposes. First was for people that track their car and was having a fuel starvation problem in the corners. The second was for forced induction cars that could use a higher fuel flow under acceleration. It is overkill for a street car.

the leak is coming from what is circled in green. when the car is on is when it leaks the most. but i cant even tell what part in that diagram is that elbow piece. that green clip on the elbow seems to be broken and maybe that is why it leaks? i just dont know how to go about fixing this.

Hey fellas I'm having the same prob with mine, after dealing with it for couple days not knowing what to do, I ended up cutting that entire plastic line out that come from the pump nipple to the metal fuel line and replacing it with a high pressure fuel hose, that's fixed that clip prob but now I realize its the nipple on the pump assemble that's cracked on the bottom side.

Chapter 3 of the factory service manual ~page 156 describes in detail how to release and re-connect the "Quick Release Connector". If it's done wrong, it won't seal. The FSM states that the repair is to buy a new fuel hose. Unless the plastic elbow itself is broken, I suspect that's not the problem.

I just had the same thing happen to me a few weeks ago. Mine ended up being the nipple on the pump housing that the quick connect elbow attaches to.

I had to cut back the nipple just behind the ring that the quick connect locks onto. Than I used some sand cloth and made a groove/recess in the nipple about 5/8" long and very shallow, just enough for a clamp to hold. Sorry no pics.

I replaced the quick connect fitting and nylon line with a 16" piece of 5/16" high pressure EFI hose. The nylon line ends near the edge of the tank where it fits over the aluminium line that runs under the car. The hard line had a 3/8" barb already on it that I pushed the hose onto.

I used mini t-bolt claps on each end of the line.

So from what I can tell I need to replace my fuel line since there seems to be nothing wrong with my pump. Does anyone know where I can get a fuel line? Or have any suggestions? I called the dealership and they want $130! There has to be another option besides that.

Have you checked online stores like rockauto or even called autozone or any of those stores?

No I didn't think they would carry something specific like that but I was planning on giving them a call today. Is the fuel line just one line that goes from gas tank to the engine of is it in sections?

My closest auto parts store don't have it and said its most likely a dealer only part. And rock auto doesn't have it either.

Dude just shop around locally, if you can't find anything try going to our vendors. FYI dealers most likely won't have 'em in stock. They'll end up ordering them for you, which is partially why they charge so much. They're also money hungry.. $130 is ridiculous.

All you need to look for is some high pressure rubber fuel lines. Get 1 to 2 feet of it, cut out your old line and run the new one all the way to the pump. I would also check to see if it's the fuel pump nipple, you'll be able to tell more clearly after you replace the line if that's the problem. Good luck

so i replaced the line and found out that i need to replace the pump. there is a crack in the nipple that is squirting gas out. so should i just replace it with a stock pump or is there a better after market one out there for a better price ect?

Unless you go to track days or are turbo/supercharged, get a oem pump from a major auto parts store. You could also order one from Black Halo Racing, but you won't gain anything.

ya i was just on bhr's website and it says that its a drop in replacement for the stock pump. the cheapest i could find the stock one online was for 190, the deatschwerks 200 pump is only 125 bucks. is that sufficient for just a daily driver? (non trackster or non turbo)

deatschwerks 200 pump is a pump only and not the drop-in assembly, if it even fits in the assembly. Because you have a piece of the plastic broken, you need a complete assembly.
