I wont mind having an rental with good gas mileage for the next 6 weeks O and i also have like 15qts of used oil from previous oil changes. And to think that 2 weeks ago i was so close to trading in the car for a new evo lol. I need to decide to either pick up another car as a DD (i have a offroad wrangler and the 8 and the 8 is alot better on the highway).

4th engine? Wow! Sounds like you have a black cloud following your car!

I bought my RX with 51k on the engine and had to have the water pump replaced at 55k. Now at 58k i'm having stalling issues under high load. I agree that it all comes down to luck.

There are folks that have 100k on the original and others like you who can't seem to get but 15k out of one.

Just curious... how much premix are you using per fill up? Also, how often are you redlining? I'm wondering if that may play into things in any way.

i put in 3-4oz per tank and i redline the car every chance i get once the engine has been properly warmed up. I know if i had just bought a black one or some other color this would never happen. As of yesterday the car has officially been down for repairs for the same amount of days that its actually been running since i bought it just over a year ago lol.... curse silver 8's

Well i just started the car up and it fired right up with no problem (still has the CEL). and it sounded great, nothing unusual at all. After about 5 minutes and it warms up the car starts to backfire and once again it begins to stutter and sounds horrible and after giving it a little gas basically wants to die. I took a video and will try and get it uploaded here in a bit.

I think I see your problem, it's a Sunlight Silver!

Has the dealer shop looked at it yet?

They look at it Monday. They said they do a cold compression test and a warm one which leads me to believe its the engine because it runs fine when cold but as soon as it gets warm it starts having problems.

No my warranty is still in place. The car only has 52k miles on it so its still under its powertrain warranty. I just find it odd that when the car is cold it fires right up and runs perfectly but as soon as it warms up it sounds like a big block V8 and can barely run.

Thats it, dealer said it failed compression on the front rotor and they are going to put a new engine and cat in it. I seriously cannot say enough about how great Town North Mazda is. They did not hassle me at all or ask for any oil receipts. The tech's there are rotary enthusiast and actually know stuff about the car and they knew i took great care of the car and would keep up with the proper maintenance. They are paying for the rental for the 2 weeks its going to be getting fixed and needless to say im a happy camper.

Welcome to the 4 engine club. Just the way it was idling was indication of a bad engine.

I'm happy that you're getting a new engine, but will it be thoroughly broken in before the state meet?

On a serious note though, the BHR Ignition upgrade IMO is a must. That engine only had 15k miles on it and the coils and plugs were replaced 9k miles ago. The reason being for the engine failure was..... That one single coil shitted out and caused detonation bad enough to blow two seals. The dealership said the other coils were all great and ran like new and the one was just a "bad one". So basically you can premix all you want and change your oil religiously every 3k miles but none of thats going to matter unless you spend the ounce of prevention. So save yourself the hassle and spend the 400 odd dollars to prevent against a possible $5,000 in repairs....

You have a damn fine dealer down there. Glad to see you're being taken care of properly. Honestly it seems like Mazda is trying to do good, with the extended engine warranty and with the changes to the 2009's and so forth. It's just some really clueless and unhelpful dealerships that give people a sour taste in their mouth when they have engine troubles....

New engine was put in yesterday and they started it and ..... it died. Lean code error, turns out one of the primary injectors was leaking and did not have enough fuel pressure which is going to cost me 250 out of pocket, which comes to a grand total of 550 for a new engine so its not too bad Cant wait to get my baby back tomorrow followed by a pro-detailing on Saturday along with a 700 mile run around DFW to break in the engine by Monday.
