I think my engine just seized. HELP!!

Hey guys, I need some help here and i and i and i cant match it up with a problem addressed already. I was just driving home, giving it some gas, when i got a CEL and I heard a bang like something slammed under my car, or in the engine bay. The car died immediately. I cranked it, and it turned over for a little while then wouldnt start. After that it wouldnt even turn..The starter whines but cant turn anything..volt gauge says fully charged, jump wont do anything. Did I just seize my engne???? any suggestions? my cars sitting in a lot down the street now ahh. The 8 is a 2005 A/T, no current major mods except HKS intake. Thanks guys

Did you look under the hood for anything unusual?
Maybe you just broke your pulley belt (lets hope its that simple).

shakeyourbrakes 08-15-2008 09:34 PM

belts look ok..nothing will even turn. even a broken belt i think it would turn over. One other thing, i took my midpipe off and put my cat back on the other day which has been sitting for a few months. A clogged cat or something wont cause this right? I also recently have been dealing with some issues when i put the car in neutral, the battery level drops to the point the car would die. Only if shifted into neutral though when drivng.....It really doesnt seem electrical, all my lights are on and battery is charged.

Does the clutch seem OK? It could fail and stop the engine from turning...

Tranny also...but if the clutch works it should allow you to figure that out.

Starter itself?? Any CEL codes??

We need some more info

Its an A/T.... My issue is that the car just died while driving, so i doubt it was the starter. CEL light came on as expained in the first post..but I have no idea what codes it is kicking out, its 11pm and I dont have a code checker. This literally just happened.

Oil level is fine

dannobre 08-15-2008 10:12 PM

Well tomorrow see if you can scare up some help to read the codes.....It might be something simple

could be many drive train related things.....

Good luck.....

If I were u, I will put the stock airbox back on and tow it to a dealer.

remember, tow it to a "GOOD" dealer in your area.

shakeyourbrakes 08-15-2008 10:22 PM

thanks ill try that if can..im 2000 miles over warrenty (32000 miles) so i want to try and avoid the dealer if possible. any other suggestions or similar experiences? anybody know what the bang could have been which caused the car to die( i defintely didnt run over anything)

Easy_E1 08-15-2008 10:26 PM

How can you be out of warranty? The drive train is 60,000 miles and the engine is 100,000 miles.
Why do you have a 30,000 mile warranty?

I8U 08-15-2008 10:29 PM

You're 68000 miles under engine warranty! Take it in and have them fix it.

hope this make you feel better.

the powertrain warranty is now 5 year 60 k miles. pretty sure that covers the 05. check you owners manual..

i think the 05 got extended also.

beers

Easy_E1 08-15-2008 10:33 PM

^Yes the '05 has that for a warranty. 40,000 bumper to bumper,, 60,000 powertrain,, 100,000 engine.

shakeyourbrakes 08-15-2008 10:49 PM

you guys are the s$#t, thanks for the info.. I knew the engine core was updated to 100,000 but I never looked at the details for the other warrenty coverage. Can anyone verify 40,000 bumper to bumper? Last time I heard that was 30,000... thanks a lot for the help guys, thats what makes this forum so great

I was mousing over this post and hit a green link:

"Briggs & Stratton V-Twin Vanguard OHV Engine with Electric ...

Briggs & Stratton 18 HP Vanguard V-Twin OHV Horizontal Engine. V-Twin 90 overhead valve design runs cooler, cleaner and more efficiently. More HP ..."

But seriously, it sounds like it's carbon locked.
You must not have been running it hard enough.

Let the dealer fix it, you may get an engine.

Do not try this yourself.
The fix is to rotate the engine eshaft backwards slightly to loosen the carbon.
Then back and forth till it passes the stopped place.

:)

shakeyourbrakes 08-15-2008 11:29 PM

i run it pretty hard, thats def a possibility though...

why should I not try that method you described? it may save me from not having a car for a few days since the dealership is closed on weekends... How would I go about rotating that..or should I definitely avoid it..again, THANKS GUYS

call dealer. have car towed in..

let them fix the probem..

shakeyourbrakes 08-15-2008 11:39 PM

ha im with ya man, i dont want to start cranking things..ill keep everyone posted what the result is in case anyone else has this issue

shakeyourbrakes 08-16-2008 02:15 PM

hey guys could this problem be my alternator... it doesnt sounds right, but a friend said it might be. The car died which could point to the alternator, but then it wouldnt crank again even with a jump and full battery...seems like it would turn over at least. anybody know? thanks

Mazurfer 08-16-2008 07:23 PM

Don't "F" around at this point. Take it to the dealer, or have it towed..............you are covered.
Don't be too surprised if the try to BS you. If they do............call Mazda North America.

Razz1 08-16-2008 08:13 PM

you can't jump start a completely dead battery.

nycgps 08-17-2008 12:01 AM

stock battery is a piece of shit. dont expect it to last. and you CANNOT jump a dead battery. A Dead battery means it will NEVER take charge again.

Mine was brand new and it died in 1 year & 11 months. go figure.

but if your car has NEVER done the Engine No Start TSB. you should be able to get a new battery, faster starter, and spark plugs for free.
