I need as much info as possible on backing out pressure plate bolts and tranny issues. i have a meeting with the gm at Marlin mazda tommorow and i need as much info as possible on thease problems

they said i abused my car and tranny by shifting at 6500 rpms from 1st to 2nd gear. I told them u advertise the 9000 redline and how teh rotary can rev up to 9000 grand. if that is abouse why dont you cut the redline down to 5000 if that will make them happy.

P.s its a damm sports car

HARD TO SHIFT, NO SHIFT 1-2, 2-1

Some manual transmission vehicles may experience shifting concerns
during either 1-2 or 2-1 shifting. (Grinding, no-shift, stuck in gear.)
The cause may be due to a bent or cracked 1-2 shift fork.

1) Verify concern.
2) Verify pressure plate bolts are torqued properly.
NOTE: Bolt torque can be checked through starter hole using a
distributor wrench. (16.3-24.4 lb-ft.)
3) If pressure plate bolts are ok, remove transmission from vehicle.
(WSM 5-11-3)
4) Dissassemble transmission and inspect 1-2 shift fork for damage.
Replace necessary parts.
5) Confirm repair.

NOTE: Use the proper transmission repair manual for reference. Miata
six-speed manuals can be used, but there are small differences
between both vehicles. Use the RX8 six-speed manual transmission
shop manual P/N 9999-95-T15M-D for correct procedures.

Some customers may complain of hard to shift, or unable to move shift
lever into any gear range while the engine is running.
Also, the clutch may engage / disengage near the floor.
The concern may be caused by loose clutch cover (pressure plate) bolts.
Follow the repair procedure below.

1. Confirm concern.
2. Remove starter per shop manual.(Section 01-19-2)
3. Check clutch cover bolt torque. (16.3 - 24.4 ft lbf) The bolts may be
difficult to access using standard wrenches / sockets. Aftermarket
distributor wrenches may be used to access N torque bolts.(14mm 9/16)
(Example- Snap-On P/N-s-8176)
4. Confirm repair.

I have attached for your perusal the wreckage of a clutch removed a couple of days ago from an RX8 with about 20k miles.As you can see the clutch disc centre was ripped out.Note there is little wear on the friction material.The pressure plate studs were tight.
There are no signs of fatigue, the centre was just ripped out--caused by dumping the clutch at high rpm.This is what abuse looks like.
If the studs on the pressure plate came loose you would see lots of wear on the friction material and signs of overheating on metal surfaces.

If your dealer kept your clutch parts and they look anything like these your chances of warranty are low I would think.Good luck any way.
PS Just threw one of the car in.

I concur on the above. If they try and argue that you abused the clutch just because it's worn and blue...they could be wrong. If the pressure plate loosens...it causes the clutch to slip...hense more wear and blue color from the heat.

The problem is...if you are abusing the clutch...ie: riding with your foot on the clutch lever, dumping the clutch at high RPM's, and all sorts of other things...it will look very similar.

A lot of how you will be treated will be how you come across to the service writer/manager. If you act like someone who could potentially be abusing the clutch...or are a dick head, them you will probably be treated that way.

Problem is the paintbrush can be very broad....and sometimes the wrong person gets "painted" in an unjustified manner.

Only you will know :D The problem is...it's a little late now!

Could the lose bolts on the pressure plate cause the rattle while at idle out of gear?

that depends on if what you are hearing is rollover noise or not. if you put the clutch pedal in and it goes away then its gear rollover.

the noise you here out of gear is the imput shaft spinning in netural. most think is the throw out bearing.

If it is gear rollover, would changing the trans gear oil to syn- help?

they arent TSB's they are MRI's. 1 step lower than TSB. No there isnt a pdf version or the like.

Is there anything about an 04 rx8 stuck in reverse? I've replaced the clutch, pressure plate, throwout bearing, clutch master cylinder and still is stuck in reverse. Vin: 40116871 I've hunted all over the net. Any suggestions?
