I

Hi guys,
I'm new here and already with a BIG problem
I have RX8 6MT 231 BHP made 12/2003. It has 103.000 km (62.000 mil.). The trouble began in september 2010. When cold, the engine felt a little low on torque...it vibrates around 2000-2300 RPM. I couldn't get 5th gear at 50 km/h, after the engine warm up everything was OK again. So I went to Mazda dealer ran the engine diagnostics and changed the plugs (the changed plugs had max 6000 miles, but looked very used, like 100000 miles plugs!!!), the ignition coils looked very good, absolutly clean. Of course the engine diagnostic showed nothing...
Now during winter it is even worse. When cold, the engine has weird noise, it takes longer to start and even the noise during ignition is very odd (like there was missing pressure or something), also the engine response is very unlinear (sometimes it reacts very slow when it gets the gas and in a moment it reacts very fast...). Last time I get the engine check light flashing, so I stopped the car, waited for a moment the light went off and the engine sound was OK again. Over 3000 RPM is everything OK, but under 3000 RPM the car vibrates when adding gas and it has lack of torque. It looks like it began at 2000 RPM and now it has moved to 3000 RPM, It's problem to get 5th gear nor the 6th. One month ago I was on Emission control and everything was perfect. I'll go to check the engine pressure this Tuesday and will see what it will say.

If anyone can give me any advise what's going on, I would be very thankful.

P.S. Forgive my english, 'cause I'm from Slovakia

First thing... You'd probably have a better chance of getting some help with a more descriptive thread title than "I" haha...

If it already went to the dealer and they said the coils are fine, tested compression, and switched the plugs then I can only think of a couple things that could possibly be making it start slow. If it doesn't have the updated starter then that could cause it, but since the dealer likes making money, they probably would have told you that to sell you a new one ha. It could possibly be a battery problem, but I would assume they would have checked your battery... But, if the check engine light is flashing that means your are probably having misfires, which would indicate something being wrong with the coils or plugs, so maybe they just missed something the first time...

As for certain gears not wanting to go in, there are a handful of possible causes... At best, you just need to change your transmission fluid, at worst something is wrong with the synchros or clutch or something... There are a handful of things that can cause shifting problems, but if the transmission fluid hasn't been changed in a while, I say go ahead and do that to see if it helps. It sure won't hurt anything and it might fix your shifting problem...

Also... It is normal for the engine to get a little bogged down if you are much under 3000 RPM. So depending on how strong the vibration and lack of torque is that might just be normal.
