how to shift? proper way?
Yes, I know this may be a really stupid question. I'm new to stick. I can shift pretty well when below 6rpms. (no grinding or anything) But when I floor it and hear the beep what's the proper way to shift? Shift fast leaving rpms high? (it grinds when I do that) I was told from a friend I should let the rpms drop below 6-5 rpms before putting it into gear. Is this true? or is it a clutch problem? Sorry if this is stupid question I just don't wanna hurt my baby

no, if you grinding, theres a problem with the transmission.
try change fluid first see if that solves the problem.
do you push the pedal all the way to the floor when changing gear?

Yes all the way to the floor.
I just find it weird that it's only when it's in high rpm.

I HATE SPEEDBUMPS!
The first time i learned to drive a stick shift is when i was in the 11th grade. I rented a Toyota Tercel 4 speed stick shift. My friend was teaching me and i remember what he said to me... whenever you change gears, is when the engine wants help to go more faster. What he meant was, when you press the gas and it's having a hard time going faster, then that's the time to change gears. That's how i learned when to change gears. I still drive like this all the time.

The engine rpm's shift about 800 to 1000 up or down between gears. So when you are accelerating you will have a smooth shift if you let the revs drop just this much (800 - 1000). Let the syncros in your transmission do their work and do not slam shift. Slam or speed shifting is for dragsters not RX-8's.

GBman's guidance above is sound for every day shifting. If your trying to track the car (or doing some silly stuff on public roads), then holding the RPMs higher with the accelerator rather than letting them drop a little during a shift will yield better overall performance results (albeit at the cost of some clutch plate surface lining and some extra wear on the synchros).

Not to thread jack, but my car has supposedly had proper scheduled maintenance done. However, if for some reason it has not, is there any damage to be had by changing the Transmission fluid and diff fluid at 55K ? I am assuming no since its a manual, it should be fine. I have just had problems with Automatics in the past iv done maintenance on and they did not take to it kindly.
