Angry Hot weather problems

Hey Guys,

Let me start off by saying ive search and read other threads on this issue and do understand some causes but can not narrow it down. I would only like to narrow it down and get more opinions on what exactly it could be. Also I had a weird noise/major loss of power above 4k rpm a while back and narrowed that down to my bolt missing from my flywheel/eccentric shaft, ive installed a racingbeat lightweight flywheel as well as an exedy 10803A clutch kit which resolved the terrible noise and loss of power above 4k rpm but during heat the loss of power still occurs.

The car runs fine is sub 85 degree weather, once it goes above that it will become slugging and have a rough idle. It does not shut off at red lights or anything else.

Secondly the car will shut off when the temp is at around 98 after an hour or so of driving, when this occurs I have to wait 15 minutes or so before she will start back up. I do notice that trying to crank will not flood the car, after 15 minutes it will crank right up.

One weird thing ive noticed is that when the temp is high and the car is sluggish on the highway I can push in the clutch and rev for a while and then the car has the power back for a few minutes.

I have bought a walbro 255LPH fuel pump but mazda says i need a whole new assembly to install this? All I have is the pump and nothing else, no clips or anything. Can this be put in without anything further? Also I am missing the plastic covering under the front bumper/engine, could this be affecting my airflow so bad that my engine is getting hot? I see no movement on the stock temp gauge but form what ive read it sucks for noticing anything minimal and the rx8 has a 30 degree window where it can be from great to terrible.

Thanks guys in advance,

Please give us all the history on your car..year, model, miles, mods, service, ? This normally means the compression is low if it's hard starting after guick stop.. Have you had a compression test done? How many miles on plugs, coils? Has the cat been checked? Have you done a decarbon cleaning?

Hello,

130,000 miles on a 2004 6sp

No mods

Regular mazda service and oil changes

reman at 45,000

coils, plugs and high flow cat 4k miles ago.

The car does not have a hard time starting ever, besides when it shuts down after a long drive in 95 degree plus heat. Once I let it rest 15 minutes it will crack no issues.

Like I have stated I don't have any hard start issues when warmed up and shut down unless its the above scenario.

And it will only happen if the temp is above 95 and ive driven an hour or so.

I'm experiencing similar issues - after having owned my '04 for a month. I just replaced the original 2004 N3H1 starter w/ a 2kW Beck&Arnley which has solved all starting issues, and while I'm not experiencing power loss, shut-offs or starting issues, I'm definately experiencing a rough idle at stops when the temp gets over 90deg... it's good to go all day, going to work, running around for lunch, and then by the time I'm headed home at 5p.m. (90+deg out) it will just idle weird at stops fluctuating between about 800-950RPM every 5seconds or so... so far it's just annoying than concerning but I'm definately wondering what's causing it...

- new coils w/in past 1000mi
- new wires ans plugs w/in past 1000mi
- Reman engine from Mazda w/in past 1000mi (65k on body)
- good oil pressure/level
- no CEL
- no misses
- no shut offs/stalls
- no power loss
- using 93octane
- getting around 15mpg around town

It's been 100+ degrees for the last couple weeks here, and the hottest time of day that I drive is when i'm on my way home at 5. I have an '06 6 speed and it seems like I have to put my foot to the floor just to keep it from stalling as i'm taking off from a stop. New plugs and coils about 20k miles ago. One thing I did notice is that after I put better gas in it, it's not as bad.

It's always seemed like my car is especially lazy when it's this hot outside

similar no start/ stall/ idle problem 05 RX-8

I have a similar problem with my 2005 Rx-8.

It starts ok in morning 70-80 deg outside air temp.
In afternoon 90 - 100 degrees F outside. It starts then after driving a few minutes stalls won't restart sometimes. Does not idle. or idles rough.

I just changed plugs and wires. That improved it for a few days. But problem came back.
I had the "low power service bulletin- re-flash of memory by the mazda dealer. That did not fix it.

Car is stock. 6 speed. manual. 132,000 miles on original motor. Driven daily 55 miles each way.

I think it runs better after i change the oil. I get a check engine lite but have not had the code read since getting the re-flash.

Classic low-compression symptoms (especially at that mileage), but I suppose it could also be caused by failing coils.

Thanks guys in advance,
Should get you started with the fuel pump

I also recommend putting a fuel pressure gauge in ... which is simple with this little beauty.

And about the plastic cover: No won't cause a problem
