Help please!!! CEL and 4k redline

If i press the gas a little before half way the car will redline at 4k and backfire like crazyyy right after eachother nonstop. Then the CEL light starts flashing. I did a CEL test and it kept saying "several rotors misfiring" could it have to do with spark plugs? I also feel loss of power like the engine is struggling to push the air out.
Also the car heats up alot.

Mods on the car:
CAI
cut off cat/resonator.
Stock catback is on.

05rex8 01-21-2009 09:35 PM

coils

might as well change plugs, wires, coils altogether

Agree

em1turbo 01-21-2009 09:40 PM

I only have 24k miles on it. Already bought the plugs. their coming in tomorrow. Anyone else experienced this?

em1turbo 01-21-2009 09:42 PM

I keep thinking its because I need to free more air. If i put on my stock intake it's alright.

What aftermarket intake did you have installed?

em1turbo 01-21-2009 09:55 PM

Some piece of shit lol. Pepboys CAI crap. Looks the same as the AEM. I don't get why. Its sucking in too much?? Too little??

em1turbo 01-21-2009 10:02 PM

CEL also said running too rich. guy said intake is sucking too much air.

05rex8 01-21-2009 10:06 PM

well, if it runs fine with the stock intake, then the aftermarket is the problem. if the issue persists with the stock, proceed with coils, spark plugs, and wires....although at that mileage, I would swap them out anyways

zoom44 01-21-2009 10:35 PM

the intake is screwing up your MAF sensor. trash that crap. get pics of it installed first and post them here

Jon316G 01-21-2009 10:35 PM

The position of the MAF sensor (and the ID of the intake tube) is important.
Can't just throw anything on there and expect it to run unless it was designed for the RX8.

em1turbo 01-21-2009 11:36 PM

huh?? lol where is it supposed to be?

Jon316G 01-21-2009 11:39 PM

Damn it... my work has the pics filtered.

I've got ya covered Jon

em1turbo 01-21-2009 11:44 PM

thank you lol. anyone know what's wrong with it? where should the MAF be?

05rex8 01-21-2009 11:47 PM

actually the maf may be fine, i guess that's the way it is on the aem
the piping looks too small tho, but it's kind of hard to tell from the pic what size
do you know the ID of it?

em1turbo 01-21-2009 11:47 PM

piping is 3" lol filter size is perfect also.

em1turbo 01-21-2009 11:49 PM

what you mean by ID?

05rex8 01-21-2009 11:53 PM

sorry, ID=inner diameter
what is the ID of the maf tube itself?
also, is there any screens installed, like the stock one has?

em1turbo 01-21-2009 11:54 PM

I'm pretty sure its 3".. the entire tube. its plastic. but still its for wind.

05rex8 01-21-2009 11:56 PM

I just thought of something, did you cap of the VFAD?

Jon316G 01-21-2009 11:57 PM

^^You beat me to it!

em1turbo 01-21-2009 11:58 PM

honestly i have no idea what the VFAD is. variable fresh air duct or something? no idea where it is though.

05rex8 01-21-2009 11:59 PM

yup, you are correct

lol.

Jon316G 01-22-2009 12:00 AM

Also... did that intake come with any screens to install.
The AEM has them to straighten the airflow and reduce turbulence across the MAF sensor.
I don't think the MAF would like it if there were no screens installed.

em1turbo 01-22-2009 12:00 AM

where is it?? lol i have no idea what it looks like or what it is. whats it do?

em1turbo 01-22-2009 12:01 AM

and no it did not come with any screens. its a tube with the MAF just sticking in there.

em1turbo 01-22-2009 12:03 AM

anyone have a pic or description of the VFAD?

Jon316G 01-22-2009 12:04 AM

Here is where the VFAD nipple needs to be capped.
Keep in mine my intake manifold extension is upside-down in this pic.

dannobre 01-22-2009 12:04 AM

3" ID is too small...the MAF will think there is much more airflow than it should...hence too much fuel...and extremely rich :)

05rex8 01-22-2009 12:05 AM

you can use the screens from your stock intake probably to reduce turbulence

plug this if you didn't already, this is a pic swoope took:

edit: shoot you beat me this time Jon, lol

Maybe... but those screens are a PITA to remove without damaging it (had to for the Racing Beat intake) .

em1turbo 01-22-2009 12:19 AM

kk important question. Do you think the AEM gets me more gains or this? running too rich isn't good? why?

honestly the stock airbox with the inner walls removed, k&n filter, plus racing beat air duct would be better...and cheaper. AEM looks nice though....and it will def. work better than what you have now. It is something made specifically for the RX8. Running too rich is making your car run like crap....when you floor it it stumbles. Too much fuel.
