TSB is now done. Not sure if it included the SSV check. It did include a engine cleaning and vacuum test. I think he said they also did another compression test after all that and documentted the results and sent all the results to mazda canada. The service tech said that he didn't think the compression numbers increased and that it would most likely be a new engine(i will know for sure when mazda canada gets back to them this monday.)

Drove down to my new house and it was the first time that i have heard one of the lower intake ports opening in a long time.....i forgot that the sound changed. Right at 4500 or 4600 you can hear the tone of the exhaust change. The engine still runs out of ideas at 6000 rpm and basically redlines at 7200(in third gear, i can get second to go a bit higher).

I would say to anyone wondering if they should do the mazda zoom power cleaner "DO IT". Even though it didn't fix my issue the fact that it actually unclogged one of the intake or exhaust ports(i don't know what is what exactlly) is enough for me to do it. And if you are lazy just get the dealer to do it, even if you have to pay 150 for it, it is probably worth it.

Is your's getting worse? Mine is starting it's power loss around 4k rpms instead of 6ish. Have you heard anything about the TSB? And by that I mean from mazda canada

Sounds like I'm having a similar issue to SpecialBlend and toddiesel. The next time I take my car out will be to limp it to the dealer if no better ideas come out.
I've replaced plugs, coils, wires, eps, cleaned the MAF and replaced the emissions air pump (because it was dead, probably nothing to do with the above issue.)
I'd say my car has about 80 HP right now. Can only get it up to 6-7k with the clutch in, and driving on the highway is embarrassing (can't keep it above 70 going up minor hills.)

^If you have addressed all the other concerns(Like catalytic converter) it could very well be bad compression.

Have the dealer do the TSB with "Engine lack of Power" in the title. Should be under the new engine warranty.

Still waiting for Mazda canada to get back to the dealer. I should know a definitive by tomorrow lunch time. I still have no power once i reach 7k rpm.

The TSB you're talking about is the pdf you hyper linked in your post# 9 right?

Yup that is the one, if you have low power at high rpms and you take the texhnician for a drive you should be able to get it done under warranty. All I remember about the tsb is it is the one that says "engine lack of power" and I did link it earlier on in the thread. I think my issue is a combination od misfires and low compression. But because the compression is low to start with they will want to address that before spending extra time diagnosing misfires. Jsut to note, 90 percent of misfire issues are addressed by plugs, plug wires and or coils

Mazda just got back to me, new engine is the verdict. Just have to wait 2 to 3 weeks for them to get one from Toronto and then a day or two to install it.

I will probably get them to install the upgraded starter at the same time to help reduce the amount of flooding that may happen in the winter due to cold weather starts.

Does anybody know if it would be the 09 engine with 3 OMP's?

Nope, it won't work with 04-08s. You'll be getting the same "version" as before.

hey guys.

While on the subject of warranties, Are they interchangable with ownership?

Thanks

Yes, if you buy or sell a rx8 the warranty goes with it.....if you or the person you have bought it from has the extended warranty upgrade then i think you have to sign off with mazda so that it will be effective once the new owner takes possession.

To answer the question above: OMP's are oil metering pumps i believe.....they are responsible for injecting the oil to lubricate the apex seals.....i believe the 08's and 09's have three as opposed to 2.

Well I FINALLY got mine out of the shop. Turns out mine was just a clogged O2 sensor, so they replaced that and cleaned my fuel induction and fixed it right up. It actually feels like it's got 50 more hp than when I bought it. Very noticeable power difference. The service manager told me i should use fuel injection cleaner every third or fourth tank of fuel.

Do you know what they meant by cleaned the fuel induction? Did they just put fuel injector cleaner in the tank or what?
I may try pulling my O2 sensor to take a look at it if that's all it took for yours.

Well the dealer found more "wrong" with my car once they took it apart of course. I was supposed to get the car back this past wednesday but then they found the clutch could probably be replaced so they ordered that. Then when i was supposed to get it back on thursday they had forgot to ship a part that was needed for the engine so it would be friday. Friday they called me and told me that they accidentally shipped the part they needed ground and not air so it would be monday.

When taking the old engine out they found that the cat was busted to **** inside, the tech said that when he looked in he could see pieces of it. This leads me to the conclusion that my low engine power at high rpm was probably due to a cat issue. The car still had low compression so a engine replacement was still necessary.

So by monday i should be getting the following:

New Engine
New catalytic converter(he said it was 2500 dollars, replaced under warranty of course)
Upgraded starter(decided it was a good deal considering no labor)
New Clutch(No labor again because the engine is already, my old one had 75,000 km on it so it would have only been a year or two and it would have been done for and would have had to pay 5 to 8 hours labor)

The tech said that the clutch was wore right down to the rivets but i call bs on that. THe clutch still felt fine. He also said he wouldn't be surprised if it only lasted another month.

Well it cost $150 so they better have done more than thrown in some fuel injection cleaner. I'm not sure exactly what they did but fuel injection cleaner takes a tank of fuel to process and this was something they actively did. I can ask what it was exactly and get back to you.

Sounds like they may have done the mazda zoom zoom(seafoam) cleaning, that is about how much they would charge you for that. How many km or miles on your car?

Man that sucks. But Good at the same time, well the Remans are supposedly really good (Sleepy-z works on them) now compared to before.

BTW when are you getting your car back?

All done

Just got it back today. The new starter amazes me every time i start the car, seriously starts in less than a second. It is 270 for the part from sunridge mazda. In addition to the above i also got them to do plugs today because the labour was free. So i have basically had everything replaced that has anything to do with power problems now. Unfortunately i cant open it up for another 900km but can already tell that the bottom end is alot stronger(even more when i first bought it at 45,000km). Going out to drive it again right away, it is like a whole new car.

The clutch that they put in feels amazing as well, it is honestly just ask light as my friends 08 civic but it grabs quickly and consistently. My old one was soooo stiff and i just thought that was the way it was.

And my car doesnt wreak like gas every time time i start it, big plus.

all in all i spent 1100 with taxes on it which got me: plugs, starter and clutch.

And i dont have to drive the nissan titanic that they loaned me(got it after 3 days in the shop instead of 5 like is defined in the power train warranty)
