Help:Leaking hose on top of fuel pump!

How I found the leak.
Long story short: Last night I went to autozone to get a case of oil dam thing had one leak in my back seat so I took out the seat and found some more oil that leaked out (pic 1) its clean and just looks like watter. I washed the seat in the bath tub got the oil out. When the seat was dry I went to put it back and I seen the pump cover. So I took it off and this is what I found (pic 2 3 & 4). Nasty oil looking stuff all over and in puddles around it. What the hell is it? smells like gas to me!

A few months back I said my car smells like gas but I can find a gas leak right. So I jacked my car up and found this stuff (pic 6) on what looks like a leak on the left thank right.
Well it was leaving a stain on my driveway/car port. I thought dam its gas. Maybe I'm to low and put a hole in my tank right. Well I think it was gas backing up and spilling out and over down to the tank and floor.

Today I had my Girl start the car. I went down to the garage backed the car out and seen a puddle of gas on the floor. Pulled back in. Took the silver cover on the seat off. I found a lot a gas. I had her turn the key and some came out of the hose on the top of the pump. I started the car and it was come out a lot and spraying all over. I tryed moving the hose but it would not stop

I did take a pic of the part number on the fuel pump (pic 5). Maybe someone can tell me if the part was replaced on my car before by looking up the number some how. The pump looks old and yellow like plastic does when it gets hot or old. Think its shot to shit. Anyone?

Has the pump been removed? The quick connect is likely leaking..there is an o-ring in there that might be screwed. If it was removed wrong it can wreck the connector and seal as well.

Remove it and see if the o-ring is intact....

What I read in other threads was; removed the quick connecter, and pull back the plastc green tab, then pull off the hose. I dont know how it could have been removed wrong.

when you put your quick connector back on, did you "click" it back ?

Another thing is, the gas pump has an gasket around it for sealing, it could leak. so you might want to check that, but you better make sure your fuel is REALLY low before you even try to open it.

Edited : After looking thru your pic, it looks like your quick connector is not sealing well. or maybe you wipe it before? there is an awful amount of gas around the cap area. You never opened your pump before have u ?

DOMINION 03-23-2009 04:18 PM

Yes, my quick connector clicks back on but the green clip feels lose.
Yes, looks like I'm missing something so its not sealing well or shut and thats why I'm leaking.
No, never opened the pump before.

I'm going to see if I can get a new head for the quick connector so I can swap them out. If that dont work I'll take her in for service. Looks like I'm going to have to buy a new pump or the rings that go around the seal. Maybe a new pump.

Unless the shaft of the pump input is screwed...a new pump isn't going to fix your problem

It is likely that your o-ring is screwed in your quick connect...

You can't replace the quick connect without the whole fuel line..unless you go to high pressure rubber fuel line and a couple of clamps. The lines are shrink fit on the fittings..and not a DIY fix

DOMINION 03-23-2009 11:53 PM

Yup. Not a DIY fix. I tryed and it was peeing all over me
I called my local mazda dealer they want $235.95 for the new line and $135.95 for a new pump :eyetwitch go fig right anyway I'm waiting on a fellow member to let me know if hes got one and how fast he can ship. The dealer can get it in 3-4 days. This is all just pissing me off!

Well you could fix it for about $6 if you want...but it won't be OEM

The flex hose ends about 10" from the quick connect..you can carefully cut it off the steel line end and use a HP rubber hose and some hose clamps....

Check it out https://www.rx8club.com/attachment.p...6&d=1237722170 its this part right here with the green clip that keeps peeing :(

gil i dont think i have this part. i would say just replace the hose with another type fuel hose from an auto part store, put some hose clamps, and done deal

i have plenty of other fuel lines with those quick connects though if you want those lmk

DOMINION 03-24-2009 05:44 AM

I'm going to check out a auto parts store for some hoses. If all else fails I'll get a new line from the stealership. But yeah let me get one of them quick connects from you. At least I can try that till the hose gets in.

dannobre 03-24-2009 07:30 PM

You can't just replace the quick connect I'm afraid.

You could use it on a piece of rubber high pressure hose so the connection is more OEM....you would have to take off all of the plastic line back to the metal.

Oh snap! guess I'm out $265.29 from the dealer ship :( part will be this Thursday.

shazy 03-24-2009 08:40 PM

Isn't today tuesday?

Oh wait never mind.

DOMINION 03-24-2009 08:47 PM

Anyone got a picture from a shop book on where the hose runs from? I know it connects to the fuel pump but I need to find the other end so I can replace it.
THANKS!!!
