If all you hear is a click and the engine doesn't even turn (but the internal lights are illuminating and not slowly dimming away), I would start checking fuses (the fuse box in the engine compartment) and also see if any of the relays look burnt/deformed (they simply pull out with a little wiggle).
FYI... Always best to disconnect the negative terminal battery when removing fuses and relays...
although I am guilty of doing it without killing power, even at work to our surface mount equipment

Sounds like the starter is not getting correct power. Check battery cable connections at the battery and at the starter, and also check grounding points. Something may have worked loose over time. Fully charge the battery and try again.

Otherwise, if the car is still under warranty, have the dealer pick it up and check it out.

If you overfilled your oil, it'll run into your intake through a breather hose.
But the engine should still attempt to turn!

Get a new car. RX-8 sucks. Mazda is too cheap and lazy to fix the engine problem. Instead they keep patching it with warranty extensions. I dumped mine at the first extended warranty of 60,000 miles after repeated failures at fixing the problem. They can't even track the fact I don't have the car anymore. Recently got another warranty extension notice that they are giving now to 100,000 miles. Worst car I ever had. Kaboom !!!

get the starter installed, skip the deflood, SPECIFICALLY tell them to not do anything unless authorized by you. all decisions goes through you. you can do the deflood yourself if need be (push start will solve the problem if the starter will work) you can probably acquire the parts cheaper online, and hand it to them for less if you will wait.
