help car issue with high rpm

I have 2000rpm at park and 1500 in drive with no gas applied just replaced the egr and throdle engine light went off and i reset the battery. after driving to work the engine light came back on and still have high rpm i was told by the store i bought the parts from that that was the issue that they came up with by using the senor reading device. They also said it will go back to normal after i dive it a couple of times once the chip pick up on the changes make to the car. I had normal rmp before i change my old egr since i engine light was on and that is what the store said cause it to come on. Any idea on what the issue is that is causing this?
