Wink HELP...ABS/ traction light and now check engine light

Help
I have a 2004 RX8 (44,000 original miles) that just received a new motor in August. Starting a week ago the ABS light and the traction light would come on with you would turn on the headlights. You could feel the traction kick in. This would also happen when your at a complete stop and you turn the steering wheel to the left and right. After a couple of times to the shop and them scratching their heads, the car finally lost all power and I could hear popping sounds in the dash board. After the popping quit the power came back as well as the ABS light stayed on and wouldn't go off. Of course this went back to the shop and they replaced the battery saying the battery could reek havoc to the dashboard. Well, today I get into the car and the check engine light is on and staying on. I called the guys at the shop and they say drive it around for a couple of day's. I'm not sure what's happening and it doesn't seem Mazda know's either. Anyone who's had a similar problem and could lend me some advise would be AWESOME.

find a competant dealer.....i would be terrified if i took my car in and they didnt know what it was.....and to let a customer drive off with a CEL is rediculous, and possibly dangerous

I am scared of driving the car. I'm in Louisville, KY and we only have two dealerships and the other one is not much better. I totally love my car and feel like i'm going to have to trade it in.

the "popping" sound might just be the solenoids energizing

The car is stock. The popping kind of sounded like 2 things were trying to connect together that wasn't suppose to connect.

So its a love have kind of... Ok I wont got there. But yeah dont hate it just cuz some *** monkeys dont know how to fix cars. Sounds like you need to email Mazda of North America and get them in on whats going on over there. I never heard of poping after a car stalled
This is why I just hate stealer ships.

If both the ABS and Traction lights are on, the odds are good that a wheel speed sensor maybe bad (most common issue). However, the way you describe that the vehicle is driving hints at something worse. The odd thing is that when an ABS or Traction light stays on the systems should disable itself since there is a known problem - the car shouldn't be activating the systems at random - it is designed not to do so.

You can take the car to Advance Autoparts or Autozone and they will scan the computer for free. They will give you the codes for the CEL and the ABS/Traction lights. That will at least tell you what the car itself thinks the problem is. But, if there is a short or damaged wire somewhere those codes may not be a true reflection of the issue(s).

call mazdaroadside assistance, have them tow your car, and get a rental car.

well it seems replacing the battery took the abs and traction light away, but now I was dealing with the check engine light staying on. They ended up running a dionostic test and and it came back as a po410 which are air pump issues. It seems when they replaced the battery he did something with the pump and the two hoses that need to snap to connect didn't snap. Once he snapped them together....problem solved. Pulled out of the car center and some *** hit me in the back. Just a little scratch, but OMG. Thank you all for your help

MA CEL po410 issue fixed?

hey man, i have an 04 rx8 with 65000miles and took it in for service for the CEL and they told me the same thing. the dealer said it ran fine except they had to replace the air pump bc of inoperable air pump and they told me they reset the PCM for a factory recall MSP16. when i left the dealership ran fine, got home around 5pm then when i got in to go to the store around 11pm the light came on. could it be the weather... 26-35 here in Mass. any advice for a newby here

Well, Blue lightning first of all, good job searching, but this thread is supposed to be in the Tech Garage Thread... It's best to post your problem there to diagnose it.

Exclamation Help Rx8 Lovers!!!!!!!!

2004 rx8 auto 50,203 (original miles). Just recently my baby got a new engine and it has gone through many new problems!

1.) I idle the car and rev to 3000rpm for 10 secs as instructed everytime it is cool. Even then, as I pull out my house if I am going slow it starts to stalls (I push in the ags but the car does not react except for the rev noise). When I reach a stop to fast (brake) then continue, again it stalls and I have to wait for it to kick in gas or something for itto move correctly.
2.) When I am driving for only 10 miles on 75mph or higher, coolant level light turns on (coolant level is fine).
3.) Finally, when I get to my destination which is never over 30 miles away, what happens? smoke comes out from the bottom or even under the hood (rarely from under the hood). I know I have a small leak from the mid part of the car (transimission - red oil)

Please tell me what can I do... : (

abs sensor wire broken!

I recently lowered the front of my car and a week later, the abs/tcs lights appeared. i removed the front right wheel of my car and noticed that the tire had tore the connector of the abs sensor off. i have the half of the connector going to the hub assembly, but the one coming from the harness is missing. there is only one black wire showing and i was wondering if it only had one to begin with. can anyone help please?

If I understand what you're describing correctly, yes, there is only one wire that runs to the ABS sensor on the wheel hub. Just locate the missing wire and order a new connector through your Mazda stealership. It shouldn't be too expensive or too hard.

And once again...mad thread revival!
