Im having some werid fuel issue, and was wondering if anyone knows whats up?
So this is what happened. Yesterday before leaving my for my friends house. I fulled up my tank to almost half. Then headed off to my friends, which is about 5 mins away and i still had the half tank when i got there. So after hanging out, i start the car and the car all of a sudden reads that i only have a quarter tank left. Im totally lose at the part. So the following day driving, ive notice that the gas gauge is dropped at a faster rate than normal. It seems like im burning fuel alot quicker. Also im not driving spirited at all, driving conservative shifting at 2-3 rpms not any higher.

So anyone got any ideas on whats cuase the problem????

 

Driving the RX8 in a conservative manner will net you less mpg/kpg....that's a fact. As for the gauge itself...if you park on a slope it will mess with the reading for a bit. I've never had my gas gauge go up though until the next drive cycle. Best thing you can do is track your mpg/kpg for a couple drive cycles and see how bad it really is compared to everyone else. Other things to check while you wait would be the Front O2 sensor and your plugs.

 

Our gas tank is split down the middle (drive shaft and exhaust), and the fuel level sensor is only on 1 side. Over about half a tank, the fuel can spill freely from side to side. As it gets lower than that however, you can, and will, easily end up with more fuel on one side than the other. The pickup is also on 1 side only. There is a siphon system to balance out the 2, but it isn't quick.

So likely what happened is, your sensor showed lower than you actually had, you put in gas and it showed higher than it had, you drove around, and it burned a bunch, but the sensor finally leveled out and thus the drop.

Other explanations are possible as well. The fuel level sensor below 1/2 is notoriously inaccurate to use as a "how much fuel do I have" gauge.
