Headlight Washers came loose

Hi All

I had a strange thing happen the other night. I was driving along and needed to clean the windscreen, so I did and thought, "That's strange, I've never actually seen the water squirt from the headlight washers before", and didn't think anything further.

When I got home and climbed out of the car to open the garage, I noticed they were gone...

I suppose I can't rule out the possibility that they were stolen, but that seems really dumb - Who'd want to steal the headlight washers? So I'm leaning towards the "They weren't put on properly" or something like that option...

Has anyone else lost their headlight washers?

Oh, right. They fell off on the accounting room floor, for North America anyway.

Ditto.. and does anyone know if it's possible to buy them and install them on the 8? My previous car (A4) had them and I really do miss being able to wash bugs and whatnot off my lights.

You can do it--do a search there was a thread specifically asking this question. I think you'd need the Canada spec bumper and washer resevoir or something like that.

I looked at what it would take.. Assuming not cutting up the stock bumper:

New bumper shell
New washer resevoir
Washers for each headlight
Hoses
Relay
and a bit of wire..

Parts cost is close to $2000 if I remember right. (Maybe it was $1200, anyway a lot more then it's probably worth!)

do they have MORE bugs in canada? is that the only reason why they have this option? seems kinda strange to not offer it in the USA just because of bugs.

I think it has more to do with road salt in the winter than bugs. On the warmer winter days, the roads are lined with salt water up here. The spray can dry on headlights and the film lets almost no light through.

Cheapest way is to buy a used bumper and as much related hardware as they can part with from our norhtern friends that may have gotten body kits.

Sorry to hijack, can I disable the headlight washer by removing the fuse and put on a new bumper (without washer holes) without anything rubbing?

Sorry - forgot to specify - I'm from South Africa - we get quite a strange model here:

European model mostly but without the Sat Nav or Cruise Control - can't even order them as options...

Anyway - I've checked with the dealer and there were no factory problems with the washers - the problem is replacing them - they're just over $130 each - big money back here in SA.

Oh well - guess I have to cough it up anyway...

my 8 has the sprayer holders which can pull in and out, but no sprayers on them too. stupid.i've had my bumper removed and the washer holders filled, badge removed and resprayed. looks better now, the less protruding objects on the bumper the smoother and sleeker the 8 looks. my opinion.
