I'll check the sticker in the engine compartment and see if it's 04, the latest, thanks.

 

On the orignal question, I have not had any flooding problems yet (7 weeks of ownership on my '05), and tested the car at the dealer before I bought it. They moved it out of the showroom, and I immediatley shut it off (about a minute after starting it), and was able to restart. Accidently did the same thing at home twice, and no problems. I try to avoid doing this whenever possible, so I only have these three experiences with a cold restart.

 

On the other flooding thread, there's a lot of talk that the weak OEM battery may be partially at fault. My situation would seem to support this theory, since I never experienced flooding until about 32k miles, when the battery might be wearing anyway.
I'm also trying to figure out if a piggyback ECU might increase starting reliability by leaning out the mix and adjusting ignition timing- anybody knowledgeable on the subject able to venture an educated answer for that?

 

Educated guess, well I wouldn't go that far
I was told by a pretty knowledgeable technician that the problem is caused when fuel is pumped into the rotor and isn't ignited. The fuel wets the apex seal and prevents proper sealing (compression). This goes back ten years to my previous RX7, but I would say it still applies here. Of course this plays well with the weak battery effect not providing a strong ignition spark

 

05 with 9k miles.
No floods.
But 2 times it took a while to start (close to the 10 second limit).
Neither was from a start/stop situation w/o warmup.
And in the cold, it turns over very very slowly.
As stated, the factory battery is useless in the cold.
I am getting a new one.

Going back again next week, believe it will get, heavy duty batter, starter, N flash, new improved again plugs. I'll let you know.

 

After reading this thread it seems that no 05 has flooded. Mine has 4500 miles and hasn't flooded yet. Although I have been very careful. I did test it at the dealers just before I bought it. I started it cold then turned it off and waited about 10 minutes and it started right up.

 

2k miles on an '05 here, and no flooding issues. In fact, other than one CEL (that I cleared myself, and hasn't reoccurred since), I've had no problems whatsoever with my car. Knocking on wood....
