Glove Box Problem
Glove Box Problem
If you look on the right side of the glove box there's a peg extending out the side. Around that peg is a plastic piece that is attached to what is most likely a small hydraulic cylinder to help keep the glove box from opening too quickly. I just noticed that the plastic piece connecting the box to the cylinder is broken on my car, causing the glove box to drop open like a rock. Has this happened to anyone else?
Yes, it's happened to a few folks. There was an airbag recall in which you had to get into the glove box. In the recall itself it clearly states to be careful not to damage this part. It even gives a part number should it happen to break. Check Rosethal site for the TSB bulletins, read the the airbag recall...

Anyway, they probably broke it and should fix the issue under warranty... It would be easier if you have the TSB in hand though.. maybe somebody here saved it?

I can tell you exactly how it happens... If you close the glove box without re-attaching the gas strut you crush the plastic ring that holds it to box. Once it has been crushed, it doesn't last long.
I'm probably going to drill a hole and use a tie-wrap to fix it. I don't want to spring for the new part.
