Gears Grinding Going From 1st to 2nd

Hey guys. I was driving around tonight and decided to give her hell one time before I headed in. I took off in 1st and *attempted* to shift into 2nd around redline but I ground my gears. I thought I effed up so I tried again and it happened a second time...Well I'm scared to try again because I know it can't be good for something in there.

Any idea what's going on? The clutch was fully depressed (I made sure of that) so I'm pretty sure it wasn't me (could be wrong though).

I'm not to bright when it comes to cars so If you guys could speak normal-person-English that would be great

Car has 64xxx miles and I'm the second owner (only had it a month).

Thanks in advance

Possibly a bad synchro...

I would try changing the fluid first though, I would recommend using Redline MT-90. There are other good options out there just make sure you don't use a GL5 oil, there are components of GL5 oils that will damage the brass synchros in the RX-8 transmission.

where is the engagement point for the clutch pedal. I've seen 8 where it's fallen out of spec and had the same thing happen. Just because the pedal is on the floor doesn't mean it's working as intended.

Alright, I'll definitely try that. Thank you.

And I don't know if this makes a difference or not...but when it grinds and kicks it back out I keep trying to put it in gear and it won't go in (don't really know how else to put it haha)...it finally goes in after it drops to 7k-8k rpms...

Still need some answers guys.

I went in to Advance today to get some transmission fluid and asked one of the employees there what he thought was going on and he said that cars aren't supposed to shift at redline from 1st to 2nd gear...He claims that since I've been shifting at redline I probably messed something up and it could be a big problem...He said to shift at around 7k or 8k instead of shifting at 9...Does everyone do this? I just assumed since its a 9k redline I should shift then (obviously not all the time...just my once a day give-her-hell) just like my friends do and everyone else I know when they're driving...I'm REALLY confused and need answers!
