gear leaver and center console get warm

My gear leaver and Center console get very warm on a long journey. I have only just purchased my RX8 R3 so not sure if this is Usual. it is a 2008 model and done 24000miles. Can anyone shed any light on this?

Exhaust gets hot, exhaust runs near tunnel, heat radiates up, center console gets warm.

It's normal. I refer to my cup holders as cup warmers because of it.

The first R3 was actually a 2009 model, though some were available late in 2008. http://www.thetruthaboutcars.com/200...9-mazda-rx-r3/

Relax and enjoy the heat, it will keep your coffee warm in its cup.

I just took my recently purchased 04 o. Its first long drive, i have spent time in many a HMMWV and thought the heat was due to transmision heat, do we know which is the case. I want my tranny to last and am wondering if i should do a "just in case" tranny fluid change.

I Have owned seven rotary cars since 1973. Trust me the heat is NOT from your transmission. It is from the exhaust which is routed near the tunnel . I have no idea what condition you got your 04 in , or its mileage, but changing the transmission fluid will not change the heat you will get, ESPECIALLY on a long trip.

I will change the fluid anyway, but its good to know the heat is not from the tranny. 04 with 62k miles, used engine with 52k because the previous owner drove the car out of coolant and oil after hitting a dog @ 130mph
