Unhappy gas Pedal sticking

Got a weird one.
Has anyone ever had the gas pedal stick, and then the car red line?
I was entering the highway late last week, and merging into trafic and shifting the car, it red lined. I took my foot off the gas and the pedal was stuck. I tapped it and it bounced back. I thought that was weird, I checked the carpet when I got out of the car and it wasn't wedged up there.. So I let it go.

Today, same thing. But tapping the pedal didn't work. I had to stick my foot under the pedal and pull it out of sticking. I'm in MI, and it's cold, but the car was warmed up.

Has anyond had this happen???? I may just need to take it in.....

I've not seen another report on the forum of that happening. It would be a good idea to have it checked out immediately. Tell the dealer it is an emergency situation affecting vehicle safety. Let us know what they find.

You know of course that there is no throttle linkage in this car and that it is a "drive-by-wire" system? So the problem is not a binding throttle cable or rod, rather it must be in the unit that the pedal is integrated with(see image).

Exclamation

I'm a new owner and i noticed the same prob dagious, mine is a 2004 with 18000, six speed, and on wide open throttle after about 7500-8000 rpm it locks to the floor, and i have to jab the clutch and it releases. I'll be takin it to the dealer monday to get looked at (plus i have the usual fogged rear tail lamp and loud brakes.) I'll hopefully have an answer within a couple weeks

okay, so I realize this message was made 17 years ago, but had the exact same thing happen with my 2007 RX8 yesterday, twice. Any chance 1) you are still alive to answer what the problem was, and 2) IF you should remember what it was 17 years ago! Or should anyone else have a guess that would be great! I have a great guy who takes care of my car just thought it might save time if there was an exact sensor, etc. Thank you!
