Gas overflows
I purchased a new 07 RX-8 6 weeks ago. Every time I fill up gas will overflow. It doesn't matter if I pump fast or slow or if the nozzle is all the way in or pulled out a little. I have filled up at over 6 different gas stations. The dealer replaced the filler neck; didn't help. Dealer says they have never heard of this problem. Has anyone out had this problem?

My 8 does this too. If you don't slow the pump down to a crawl before it clicks off it will overflow. i don't know if moving the nozzle around makes a difference or not because I always slow the pump down when I'm near full. Hasn't been a problem since i started doing it.

I find my '07 does the same thing, however it does not happen all the time. I find that different gas stations will do this more often than others. I just pump the gas manually now, I'm tired of wiping gas off from the rear quarter panel.

I'm always suprised by service departments who feel obligated to say "We've never heard of this before". Even if it's true (half the time it isn't), it makes no freaking difference. The car is spilling GASOLINE. There's no acceptable comment other than "we'll fix it".

I got my car back from the dealership yesterday. They ended up changing the fuel tank. There is an issue with some valves that are in the tank in case the car rolls, it keeps fuel from comming out of the tank. These valves being stuck cause more pressure when filling the car and the pump doesn't shut off in time. I noticed a few other people seemed to have the same problem. If you take your car to the dealer tell them about this because the first 2 people my dealership spoke with at Mazda tech said they had not heard of this issue, but, the third one did. Also, a service bulletin has recently come out for the car being underpowered. There is a range VINs that this applies to. My car seems to have more power after they reflashed the computer.

I just picked up mine in the last few days and it has the same issue. I'll be swinging by a dealership sometime in the next week to see what they can do. I'll let you guys know how that goes.
