My 05 MT popped a p0442 cel... after reading i learned it was the gas cap.

The cel doesnt appear frequently (300-600miles after reseting cel) but i was wondering if there is any fix to the cap rather than buy a new one?

 

get a new one at autozone for 8-12 bucks..make sure to check the tubes coming off the acordian tube after the air box as well...0442 isnt always the cap, its a small EVAP leak, which means something in your whole evap system isnt pressuized correctly when it does the test. Vacuum lines are a cause as well, it was for mine..one of the tubes had a small crack where it attaches to the accoridian tube and some air was leaking out

 

Also make sure to rotate-click the cap a half dozen times. I popped a cell even after a few clicks.

 

is the gas cap supposed to get tighter the more clicks? because my cap just clicks nonstop all the way around many times and doesnt get any tighter...

 

Tighter only to a point. A half dozen clicks seems to be the sweet spot.
