Unhappy Front Rotor Misfire

I have already looked at most of the threads for misfires. I would like to discuss my symptoms and maybe someone can tell me if I am on the right track.

2005 RX, 65,000 miles, engine and plugs replaced at 32,000, new engine never flooded. I drive it every day and it has been ultra reliable. I routinely make it beep at me so it shouldn't be carbon buildup. It has been starting good and has plenty of power so I don't think there is a compression problem.

First hint of problem rough idling at a stop light for short period. It straightened up right away. Later in the day intermittent misfire for a second or two under heavy load at mid to high RPM, I suffer from leadfoot syndrom ;-). Engine had been running for about 20 minutes and was good and warm.

Check engine light came on. OBDII reader showed code P0301 Cylinder 1 Misfire. I have a high end reader and it captures freeze frame data at the time of the code generation. Engine RPM was 3142, 38% load, 45 mph, spark advance 37, etc. If additional information from the freeze frame data would be useful I can post it.

Morning after, after a cold start it idled fine in the driveway. I pulled out of the drive and it misfired continuously under light load. It still idled ok though. Turned around and went home right away.

Bought new spark plugs, 32,000 miles on old set, and plug wires. After installing plugs and wires the misfire is there 100% of the time. the front doesn't fire at all. I did the brake petal thing and the oil gauge did it's wiggle. No change. Both the front and rear plugs looked similar. Front trailing plug was a little wet on the threads when I removed it which I would expect since it was misfiring.

I am thinking I have a bad coil and messing with it when changing the wires made it fail completely.

Anyone agree? Or disagree?

The BHR website says they will have 5 sets of their ignition coils ready to ship by 1/30. This is my every day work car and I'd hate to have to wait that long. Are they available anywhere else?

Or is there another highly recommended coil set that is more readily available?

Thanks
Rick

See my thread here: https://www.rx8club.com/series-i-trouble-shooting-95/misfire-cel-bhr-ignition-some-troubleshooting-already-done-227584/

I'm waiting on a coil tester to check my BHR coils because as far as I can tell, everything else is fine.

Thanks for responding. I am thinking I have coil problems also. Unfortunately it looks like a set of BHR coils might not be available until after Jan 30th. I can't wait that long.

I don't want to put OEM coils back in again because I plan on keeping this car forever. Well - almost anyway.

I have concluded from posts that BHR are the best. What is second best? Or does anyone have a set of BHR coils they would be willing to part with?
