exhaust leak...am i missing something

is there supposed to be a gasket that goes between the stock midpipe/cat and the stock cat back...i removed my stock catback and installed an aftermarket one that i got some from someone on here and i have a little leak...is there something i am missing...i had no sort of gasket on my stock cat back or midpipe...thanks!

Spinning Sushi 04-21-2008 08:53 AM

If the midpipe is not a TurboXS brand then it will not bolt up. TurboXS' exhaust will only bolt up to their midpipe. There are no gaskets out there that will help fix the leak if the midpipe is other than the TurboXS brand.
Also, there is a donut gasket that comes with the TurboXS Midpipe when you order it.

tskeltonPGA 04-21-2008 08:56 AM

ok....they said they have a gasket that goes from the midpipe to the header but not one from the midpipe to the catback...anyway i just ordered it even tho they are out of stock on the gaskets...so should have it by wed or thursday they said...we shall see...i was just wondering bc two different people have said there should be some sort of gasket that goes between the stock catback and the stock midpipe

Spinning Sushi 04-21-2008 09:01 AM

Yeah, there's also a gasket that goes from the midpipe to the headers, those can be found at ANY Pepboys and Autozone for dirt cheap. :)

It's going to be hard to find a donut gasket for the midpipe to exhaust though. Not many places carry a 3 inch donut gasket...

tskeltonPGA 04-21-2008 09:07 AM

yea...it can be ordered from the dealer for 53 bucks but i think thats not gonna be 3" though...so i'm getting the midpipe gasketless as far as i'm aware...i'll pick up what gasket i can when i go to install it and just go from there i guess

Spinning Sushi 04-21-2008 09:08 AM

Holy crap, $53?! You can get them from Pepboys/Autozone/Kragen/etc. for around 8 to 15 bucks!

tskeltonPGA 04-21-2008 09:12 AM

the 53 bucks is for the seal ring as they called it...i need to look at mine again and see if i just didnt see it or what the fuck the deal is...not gonna buy that yet...i'm gonna get the midpipe on and just take it to the local muffler shop and see what we need to get

Spinning Sushi 04-21-2008 09:14 AM

Once again, the people at the dealerships don't know what they're talking about. Those idiots don't even know what a Donut Gasket is called...

Spinning Sushi 04-21-2008 09:15 AM

This is what the dumbass stealership is calling a donut gasket as a "seal ring." Those damn ignorant fools....

tskeltonPGA 04-21-2008 09:15 AM

HA!!! actually i know the two people at the parts department at this dealership and they are awesome...well at least really helpful...i swear i must bug the shit out of them...but the techs there and service/parts people are fucking great...and the sales guys i think like when a happy rx8 owner comes driving through the lot bc they almost always bring someone over to check out the car...wierd man

wait...what picture is that...thats not from the rx8 is it...i def. didn't have anything like that when i removed my stock catback...

Spinning Sushi 04-21-2008 09:17 AM

Well, as long as they satisfy a customer then I guess it's alright. :)

That's not from an RX-8, I'm just showing you what the dealership is referring to as a "Seal Ring." You'll need that to bolt up your midpipe to your exhaust. The stock donut gasket is only 2.5 inches so that will not work with your midpipe, you must get a 3 inch donut gasket to get a proper seal.

tskeltonPGA 04-21-2008 09:22 AM

ok so i just need to find a 3" donut gasket?

like this http://www.fastwrx.com/3indonutgasket.html

Spinning Sushi 04-21-2008 09:31 AM

Yep. :)

tskeltonPGA 04-21-2008 09:33 AM

well shit i'll pick something like that up when my shit gets in...damn

Easy_E1 04-21-2008 09:35 AM

Here is a pic of a sealing doughnut, between the cat (mid-pipe) and the exhaust. Sorry it's a bit abused.

And here is a pic of the one in front of the cat. Exhaust manifold to cat.

Easy_E1 04-21-2008 09:36 AM

tskeltonPGA 04-21-2008 09:37 AM

tskeltonPGA 04-21-2008 09:42 AM

hey question... the donut gasket on the link i found and put up here really just looks like an o ring (??) kinda gasket...not like the stock donut gasket...where do you get a 3" one of those bitches

Spinning Sushi 04-21-2008 09:45 AM

Donut gaskets may sometimes look different but it will function the same. The purpose of a donut gasket it so that if the exhaust moves, the donut gasket will prevent it from leaking.

Edit: I got the donut gasket straight from TurboXS. :)
