look for vaccum leak..also ive seen engines sometime generate their own noise some are harmonic some are mechanical noises...if it just started then yes look for a problem for sure...if its been doing it for ever then id look away...

What year? What model? Is it new? How long have you had the car? Did the noise just start, or has it been doing this for ever?

More importantly: do you have the stock intake, or something else?

Does the problem happen: at idle, under full accel., cruising, all of the above, etc.

Seriously, this could be ANYTHING from a vacuum line loose to a noisy alternator bearing.

2004 AT GT its stock intake.. just bought it about month ago didnt notice it when i test drove it. only happens around 2k rpms no matter what gear. starting to get kind of annoying now. its had all recalls done and ive got a list of stuff thats been replaced over the years.
