Angry Engine RPM gargle

Just got my 2007 RX-8. Has a "Mazda speed cold air intake. Been running fine for a week since a i got it. But today when I was driving second gear up to 7000. On next traffic light started to gargle. sounded like one spark dropped out. gargle seemed to come & go. I don't know anything about rotary engines. Put some "Lucas" fuel injector cleaner in tank And sprayed some throttle body cleaner into the intake. helped a little but gargle came back & engine light has stayed on. Any thoughts on why & how to fix? I heard RX-8 are notorious for fowling plugs.

Pull your plugs and inspect them. It could also be a loose spark plug wire or a coil going bad.

check the code, like alnielsen said, could be something to do with ignition. i too had this problem and it turned out to be one of the coils that went bad. i suggest replacing coils with the BHR kit and a new set of plugs.

BHR Ignition System | Black Halo Racing make sure to get spark plugs. putting the coils in is pretty easy and comes with instructions. the plugs are simple too but need the car to be jacked up and driver wheel removed unless you can reach around it like i did.

If it's your ignition, you'll want to stop driving the car until you have it solved.
They're not notorious for fouling plugs under normal conditions, but when your coils start to go, all kinds of magical things happen. If you don't know when your ignition coils were last changed, change them now, ideally with the BHR kit linked above ( so you don't have to change them again in 2 years).

How many Miles, auto/manual trans? There should be something related to your concern in this forum. Could be numerous things happening. Go get your car Diagnosed with a obd2 tester. That'll help narrow what's wrong instead of chasing ghosts.

Ok replaced coils and sparks. I'm still only getting 300km to a tank of 50 liters. I Just got a magnaflow full exhaust including Cat. Now with the new exhaust it is back firing on exceleration. I know its dumping way too much fuel into the motor. Could it be the Mass air flow sensor or something else? Got this car at an auction so I don't know what previous owner has done. How can I see if it's been chiped? Is it possible that it's been mapped wrong? I have free long distance anywhere in North America. I am willing to call.

If your mileage is in city traffic, with stop and go, variable speeds, idling, etc. your mileage is fine. Don't forget you have an aftermarket intake and an exhaust which also contribute to more fuel consumption. Backfiring is also normal with rx8's especially after you put a less restrictive aftermarket exhaust. I doubt the car is chipped...

Is there a way I can check to see if its been chipped. will stock chip have some sort of identifier on it? Can anyone tell me if they know of a shop in Toronto GTA that can map my car to see what the issue is?

add on chips for rx-8s are very rare. Reflashes of the main PCM are more common. The dealer can restore it to stock, but it will cost money.
