Question Engine Replacement Warranty Help

I recenty had a compression test done on my 04 rx-8 with just under 100k KM on it and it failed

I am now recieving a new engine under warranty but the dealership is saying that the compression test, decarb and second compression test are not covered under the warranty even though it failed.
The time my catolytic convertor died was free for the CEL scan and the time it took to rule out any other possabilities. So I would assume the engine would be the same deal?

I have read a lot of posts stating that these are covered but am unable to find any documentation from Mazda stating such. Just looking for any help/experience any one might have with this

Thank You

Call Mazda USA, and ask them.

Here is a copy of the "TSB" about engine replacement and it states on page 14....".Additional diagnostic time cannot be claimed for this repair".

I was looking back on my catolyst repair and it also says additional diagnostic time can not be claimed. It was totally free when it was done. So my next question is what is considered "Additional". it doesnt say any diagnostic time is not covered leading me to wonder if it means that only anything outside of the perscribed tests in the TSB are not covered.

Has anyone had a new engine and can recall whether or not they had to pay for this?

I would benefit from this info as well.
I'm being charged for Compression test, decarb and vacuum test. All of which verified a dead engine.
What constitutes "Additional Diagnostics" as per the referenced TSB above.

Same boat here. I actually went through this today in Ottawa; had to pay $290 for test + decarb + test again.

I asked the tech and he indicated Mazda Canada doesn't reimburse the dealership for those.

edit: forgot to add that replacement engine will definitely be needed.

^^ He's lying.
I ended up getting reimbursed for the decarb, 2nd compression test, and vacuum test.
But I did have to pay for the first Compression test.

Ask your dealer for Mazda North America's phone number so you can confirm what he's telling you because you have heard otherwise.

not sure if it's the same in Canada but, in USA, if your test fails, the cost of the test will be covered.

Edited: I misread Methanoxide's post... Sorry man, didn't realize you meant the tech/dealer. Thanks for the tip. This whole engine business has got me a bit stressed out, I need to take a chill pill.

That's BS, I have had two engines replaced under warranty and I never paid for the diagnostic time or tests. Most dealer waive the diagnostic fee if you get the car repaired there.

I am not surprised, I found it hard to believe, but took their word for it. I thought it was a bit fishy especially that my 8 is still under the 5-year powertrain warranty until Sept 29.

From the looks of it, it sounds like I might have a case with MazCan. I will wait however as I would not want this to jeopardize my chances of being approved for a new engine.

It's all good, didn't even see your original response.
But I bet it was beauty since you thought I was calling you a liar!

Good call on fighting AFTER the approval.

Good luck.

I have my motor bring replaced today under the warranty. When the dealer hooked it up on their machine it read Low Rpm, Lean, and Misfire. I paid for new coils, plugs, and wires to fix the misfire issue. After the replacement of parts the motor started and shut off immediately. Then the mechanic started it up again and held the gas pedal down to rev up the motor. He then let go of the gas and it shut off. He hooked it up on the machine and he looked at me and said you need a new motor.

I was lucky to learn that Mazda has an extended warranty on the rotary engine so I receive a new motor today. Hope this one doesn't fail on me.

It annoys me that they scam people this way. So are they going to refund you the money for the parts you did not need?

No, they said they were not going to reinburse me for the parts I bought. They said they needed to make sure the motor was bad in order for them to replace it.

I agree with your statement though they do scam people at times. But I did get free spark plugs they said Mazda has a warranty on them also. You might want to check on that for your RX8.

Yeah well if your engine still failed the compression test then obviously your coils, plugs, and wires were working so basically they trashed your good parts and charged you for new ones. A warranty on plugs? They are only $80.00 at NAPA. But it's your money. Personally that **** wouldn't fly with me, especially when you could have replaced all that for $250.00-$300.00 yourself and they charge close to $1,000.00 to do it.

I only paid for new coils from O'rielly auto parts all 4 $127. The plug wires from Summit Racing was $48. I installed both myself with the Mazda mechanic watching me. They told me the Spark plugs were free because Mazda had a warranty on them. I still have all the parts I took off when I replaced them.
