well today I was driving in traffic and then I just lost all power when going real slow into 2nd gear and my engine had a real bad knocking real loud and also had burnt oil and gas smell with white smoke coming out the pipes. any info as what could be the issue.

need more info on the car: yr, mileage and when the last time the coils and spark pluge were changed and if the car was ever flooded

 

have about 57,000 miles on the car the engine was replaced in may along with the coils back in may 2008 last year. Also I had another car so it like I've been driving it for a total of 5 months before after the. Engine was replaced

 

White smoke out the exhaust after it's warmed up usually means coolant in combustion chamber. Let us know what you find.

 

Is it just me, or do people who get engine replacements need another engine replacement later on? All the posts I've read of people who got engine replacements are on their 2nd or 3rd new engine. I've never seen someone who got one new engine swap and was set. Makes me think its not the engine...

Yeah I know. I replaced my oil last week
But for some reason I can't go a good full six months without having any issues with this car.
My lil brother has a rx7 2nd gen with 150,000 miles on it a never had the engine replaced and that with crazy driving and all. So I'm just not sure about this car anymore

 

sounds like the motor is toast to me...maybe you got a bad reman...

I saw an ad for a used 2004 RX8 for sale. 107K miles on the car, but only 40K on the engine. Who knows if it will go out in the future, but 40K is on a re-man engine so far.

 

Doesn't sound good. White smoke is bad. As mentioned above.
If it's bad they should replace it under warranty.
