Engine Dies on Neutral while moving, please help!
Heres the story,
Drove from LA, CA to Kansas a week ago. Now im having some problems. While i was driving i had the check engine light come up and had to stop by a shop and they told me it was a Misfire Cylinder 1 (came out to be a loose wire). That got fixed. I recently had another check engine light on for the same thing but took it to a shop and they said everything was fine so they just reset the check engine light.
While i was driving on the highway at about 75 MPH and 55 getting off at the ramp, i went on neutral and by the time i got to the stop sign and my engine just died. I had to fight to start it back up (which i just turned it off all the way and turned it back on). Now this happened twice today. The first time, pretty much the same thing except fighting to start it back up.
I need some help and see if i need to change out some parts or have specific parts checked or changed. Thanks

just had the same problem!!
been having check engine light problems consistanly since i bought my '04 brand new. this past month, the catalytic converter went out! symptoms: on starting the check engine light would come on, the rpms would radically fluctuate then eventually the engine would die. once i got it running, it would run really rough like there was a vapor leak. anytime i'd put it into neutral, the engine would die, would have to keep restarting it with the clutch in on the highway! it was dumping gas like crazy! finally limped in to the Mazda dealership on empty. they said that the converter went out and it took almost 3 weeks for the part to come in. $3000 later i pick it up, the technician left it running for me so i went to walmart for a couple hours. on trying to start it in the parking lot...the same damn thing starts happening again! i limped home since Mazda was already closed and limped it back again the next day. the ignition coil went out so it wasn't sending the signal to the spark plugs! so...these are the problems i've had with that damn check engine light: catalytic converter, ignition coils, having to decarbonize the engine twice in 6 months, spark plugs and believe it or not, a loose gas cap! (replaced three times in one year, finally bought an aftermarket one which locks a whole lot better!)
so good luck with finding your problem, but you could mention the above for them to check out. the catalytic converter is covered up to 100,000 miles under the emmissions warranty. frustrating...i know

edit: Wouldn't have had those issues if the car was properly maintained...

my car is serviced regularly, on time, every 3000 miles. i check my oil level at every gas fill. having bought my car in the production year, it has had a number of problems.
p.s. i'm not a dumb person (i used to work for Mazda)

Anyone here is going to look for the same thing a mechanic is, the engine error codes. Nobody has posted any. If your not in Calf., the major auto parts stores will read them for you. Until there is something more concrete, your just throwing money at the problem with no guarantee of fixing it.

i called a mazda dealership and im taking it in to get checked up. ive been taking care of my baby, always checking the oil at every fill up and maintaining it. It was just weird because it stalls randomly and only when getting off a highway at high speed on neutral.
