Please give us the history on your car. The service it's had and parts replaced. Type of driving it gets(long commutes, short trip), fuel used(reg or prem), ever flooded, mods installed. Have you ever run any engine de-carbon cleaner to improve compression? You might need this to clean up the carbon buildup from a lot of short drives and not much red lines. Just any thing that you can add.

Are you sure it's coming from the engine? I recently came across a sound that can only be described as a chirp. For two weeks I tried to track it down. I did locate it but not where I thought .
Check the metal cap on the top of the shifter. Mine was barely loose and it chirped loudly with a metal on metal sound and it only moving about 1/16 of an inch side to side. If this is the case, lightly pry up the black gear indicator at the top of the shifter to uncover a screw, just tighten. If your is an Automatic, sorry this wont be of any help to you.

Mine has started doing this as well. Only seems to do it in the first couple of seconds after startup though. Sounds a little too solid to be a belt, I was thinking it was the Ac compressor or some such.

I'm another who has the chirp, always when cold and if you touch the throttle it'll chirp, i've checked all the belts and found nothing, funny thing is it's only started doing this since the last visit to the dealers, they did'nt do much except check my work over and flash the ecu.
Once warm it does'nt chirp, a few other owners in the uk also have the same thing going on.My car is standard except for the magnacore kv85 ht leads and has 20000 miles on the clock. As far as i can tell it's coming from the engine.

i just posted about this on another thread about rattles and humms(should have searched i know). i think I'm getting the same thing but mine happens after the car is warmed up and the idle starts to settle down. i dont think its a belt but thats the closest think i can think of to describe how it sounds. i was thinking it could maybe be a loose engine mount or something where metal shouldn't normally be touching metal. also this seems to get worse when its cold.

Damn quite a few ppl have a chirp coming from their car. I have the same thing I know its not the belts 100% on that It maybe metal or the fact that I have to buy a new driverside splash guard and fender liner but the chirp started today Mine is a bit different from what I see on here my car chirps on take off fro 20 - 50 mph if I let off the gas it stops

chirp
Same little chirp here but only on a cold start up just as the engine fires. It's been doing it for a few years now......
Had it in to dealer a few years ago for some other issue and told them but they could not find cause of chirp or repeat it.

Here are the various "chirps"
1) Clutch disengagement slave cylinder pivot - A quiet "ee-ee-ee-ee" when your foot is off the clutch pedal at idle.
2) A/C belt idler bearing - A not so quiet "chee-chee-chee" tied to engine RPM. Tends to get slightly worse as the motor warms up.
3) Low load detonation - a single, metallic "scrape" as you lightly accelerate off of idle or start the engine (especially when cold). This is a form of detonation caused by the sudden change in ignition timing on the trailing plugs.

The third one kind of sounds like my issue but my chirp isn't upon start up I hear it when the cars warm an between 15-45 mph if i ley off the accelerator it stops. would I still fall into that third catagory? I plan on checking my plugs, coils, and wires when I get home in the other thread Weird engine noise or sound someone said to do a compression test would that be something to look into?
Best info I've gotten all week on this thanx

I've had the occasional "startup chirp" ever since the last time I got flashed; probably a couple of years now. I thought maybe it had something to do with the OMP, but MM's explanationi makes sense. Now I can worry about it even less than I already was

I am also interested in this. Except mine does this all the time and the noise gets faster as my speed increases.
I have an 05 AT and the dealer have told me I have low compression due to failing oil metering pump.
