ECU/PCM "flash" Info/questions
A little off topic but jesus christ has this board changed. I haven't been on it for a while since mods for the 8 have haulted and have been working on my 05 Legacy, but good lord. I don't remember this much disrespect and dissing on the board 8 months ago. It's a discussion board....let people have an opinion and leave it at that. If you don't agree, do so in a civilized manner. Don't just rape the fella.

Ok, I just read the whole thread over again but I don't see any one interfering with anyone elses opinion. It seems to me Everyone has the same opinion. Maybe I'm wrong, but it seems everyone loves their car, but wishes they didn't have so many problems, their car didn't have as many issues, or that Mazda would just cover the problems they know they have. I love(d) my car, but I just wish it was on the road.
Went to the dealer for the brake pad TSB and the new PCM flash. Brake pads done without hesitation but they alerted me that no reflashes were being done due to a programming glitch.
Any idea when the fix will be in?

I'm not sure whether this should be left under this or moved to the M-flash area..
While in for some warranty work, I got notified for the reflashing several weeks ago. Things appeared to be OK after I picked up the car and drove it for a short time. One day, after parking the car at work, I smelt a burning plastic-like smell that I never had before. It seemed to come from the left rear wheel as I moved around the vehicle to determine the source. Then I relaized it was coming from the exhaust (wind had blown the "odor" so it appeared like it was coming from the wheel). I never ever had this. I smell it quite frequently now after the "service".
Also, while having the car run in the garage, I have a black spray coming from the exhaust which now shoots out in such quantities that it has left a spray pattern of residue on the garage floor.
On top of this, when I went to check the oil, I found the dipstick filled with a cream colour paste like substance on it.
I am not sure what the changes were done, but something must be causing more "crap" to come out of the exhaust because I had noticed that the back of the car now has an oily film that has been sucked back onto the rear bumper.
This was never the case before.
Has anyone experienced any of this?

I took my 8 to the dealer to get the "M" flash and was told that my vin number was good for the flash. They called me 2 hours later and informed me that they had received a fax from Mazda discontinueing all flashes untill further notice. All dealers in my town are owned by the same company so I get the same answer. Can some one confirm that this is the case?
The creamy stuff on the dipstick has been discussed before and people say it isn't a problem. Exhaust on the other hand....yeah that can be a prob. I'd take it to the dealer asap and have em fix it. Even if they say they didn't do it it's still under warranty.

to me it doesnt sound like it was your CEL flashing. sounds like a different light. fashign CEL would not go out on its own. also flashing CEL means take it to the dealership immediately
yep the new software updates have a new file name the difference is the new ones have a Z. the letter after the E is still the calibration level. so our current "M" is the same as the new "Z-L" . read the updated MSP04 tsb.

Is it correct to say the original "M" is okay and the new "Z-L" has a bug?
