DSC / Traction Control Activating on Slow Turns
Now I'm pretty sure I know the answer, but I'd like some confirmation. My rears wheels are Volk LE37 19x9.5 with +45mm offset lowered on Tein S-Tech springs. I had Dunlop Direzza DZ101's in the rear (275/30/19) that I recently replaced with General Exclaim UHP's in the same size. I had no rubbing issues at all before replacing them, but the Direzzas were pretty worn on the inside tread.
The sidewall of the Generals "bulges" a little more and I think I'm rubbing a lot on slow banking turns (like a freeway interchange). It's activating the traction control (little light on dash is flashing) while making the groaning sound. This is caused by rubbing, right? I haven't changed alignment. If the problem is rubbing, I can roll the fenders or adjust the camber. Any other suggestions short of replacing the tires? |
This is caused by tires sliding on the road surface.

Bump for anyone else that may have this problem? I'm chalked the tires to see if I'm getting any rubbing.

Not that I'm doubting your expertise, but brand new tires with 300+ miles on them are sliding around at 10 - 20 mph? Do I need to smoke them to get some kind of protective coating off of them? Or maybe I need a new alignment?
At slow speed corners combined with low traction low quality asphalt your torsen differential is responsible on making you slide. |
I think I may have the answer and will reply and confirm later (when my tyres are changed)
I've had the same problem and I've spoken to 2 Mazda garages, a tyre dealer and a tuning garage. They all conclude the reason my TSC/DSC is triggering is because the tyres on the back are not the same make a model as front. Sizes printed are identical but because of the different design, tread pattern and slight size variation (noraml with different make/models tyres the wheel at the back are spinning slightly slower than the front. Couple this with some corners and it's creeps outside the tolorances of the TCS/DSC and the system kicks in. I thought this was crazy but i'm told the system is VERY sensitive and Mazda recommend having the same tyres all round I.E. if you want to switch make/model you do all 4. I'm sure there are some combos that work fine but seems the combo I have doesn't. The dealer are changing the tryes so all 4 match as I type and I should be picking it up soon so I will let you know how it turns out. Could be complete bollox in which case it's going to Mazda to be sorted....at the dealers expense ;) |
Well I am surprised, but it was the tyres. The car now has 4 matching tyres and is working perfectly! What a fussy TCS system....mind if it keeps me out the hedge I don't mind ;)

measure the outside dia of front and rear tires.. they need to be equal..
beers  |
Yup, that was the issue. Sorted now ;)

 ahh............

I had this happen when my tire pressure was too high. But this is a little different. I wasn't getting any rubbing or groaning. It was just on freeway interchanges and other swooping turns where the traction control just went nuts even if i was only going like 40 mph.
I took about 4 lbs out of each tire and it completely went away and i had much better grip :lol2: |
I have 2 new tires on the back and older ones on the front I trigger the dsc in situations where I am driving the posted speed limit around turns. Thought the system was just sensitive but now I know. Cool, I will just have to burn up the rear tires so that I have an excuse to get new wheels and tires.
