How much did the dealer charged you for this?

They don't know what's wrong with it. Said they can't replicate the problem.
I asked did they know what was causing the engine to drift in and out of vibating when it was warm, and said they didn't notice it doing that. But it does that alllll the time.

Very disappointing.

Are you leaving the car overnight at the dealership and then in the morning they test drive your car? What you need to do is drive your car and once you start having the problems take it to the dealer and have the service manager test drive the car with you.

To experience the vibrating you need only sit in it for 5 minutes until it heats up.
The serious power loss and cutting out only happens after long (200+km) or sustained high rev driving.
But I guess I could try do one of those things and try catch the guy.
Or try another garage perhaps. This lad didn't really listen to my fuel pump or cracked engine mount ideas.

3 days with the dealer and it's back... They couldn't find a problem.
That being said, I'm having trouble re-creating it myself.
Maybe I dreamt the whole thing :S

They didn't charge me though, which was nice.

So after a few more brake downs it went to yet another Mazda service center.
They have done a compression test and said it's failed badly. Seems the apex seal is probably gone. They are contacting Mazda to see what the warrenty can/will cover, if anything.

Keeping in mind the extended engine warranty appears to only cover America, I think I'm fu*ked

Dave,
Have they quoted you a price for repairing or replacing the seal yet? For everyone else, can the seal even be replaced or is this one of those engine replacement issues?

Shes been in the garage for a full 3 weeks now, and still no word from Mazda about covering the cost of a new engine.
They haven't quoted me any prices yet so I can't help you there, but I'll let you know. Sigh, 3 bloody weeks.

by the way does anyone know where I can buy a replacement stock grill? Since mine was ripped off during the last towing. Sigh

Any News on how this is going for you man? What Garage are you using? I always use Joe Duffy and while he is expensive he is quite good! Plus there is always a couple of 8's around so they are used to working with them!

I had mine NCT'd the other day, failed first time for a broken anti roll strut, that fixed it flew through, did you buy your car private or off a garage?

No word. She's still there. It's been over a month now. I don't even think about it that often anymore.
It's in Mazda at Sandyford Motor Centre (http://www.sandyfordmotorcentre.com/)
There's 2 other 8's in there waiting for new engines.

Errrr I got it from a garage but with no warranty. Lets just say private. It was a bit complicated.

So it's been into week 8 since I've seen my car, but there's good news!
Mazda have agreed to pay for the new engine But none of the labour, seals or gaskets.
So it's going to run me 1600euro for the installation and another 500 for a new clutch I'm throwing in. Figured I might as well replace it while the engine is out.

I'm told it's been test driven today with the new engine and clutch.
If all goes well it should be ready by tomorrow.

I got it back yesterday, drove it for 5 minutes, saw the Check Engine light come on, and took it right back.
Fuel mix is wrong - too lean.

Hopefully get it back again....soon....

Got a call from the mechanic yesterday - the catalytic converter is gone.

What's this forum's foul language policy?

we're adults, you are allowed to use explicit language as long as it is not directed at another member or person.

example: I'm SO ******* PISSED that my catalytic converter is dead. damn it!!!!!!!!

Nope. Don't have that one.

Wish we did because that cat was only 4 years old.

So the new cat was installed and I collected the car on Friday evening.
Garage told me to give it a good spin to wear the cat in. (whatever that means)

So I started it up and noticed pretty wild range of revs. Jumping up and down a lot; figured it might be something to do with new cat. Maybe!?
Of course the thing broke down in the proceeding 5 minutes - twice. Thankfully right outside the garage the second time.
Rang today for an update, and they don't know what's wrong yet.

****.

Yeah.....OD is right of course!
If you/they disconnected the battery then that reset the ECU and it will take 2-3 drice cycles for it to re-learn the fuel trims and settle down. This means it's somewhat prone to stalling until you drive it a couple of times. Don't panic yet.

I like the sound of that. Well at least it sounds cheap

I'll give them a call and have a word in their ear.
