Does outside temp effect CELs?
I think this topic goes here...
I had a midpipe installed back in April when the weather was "nice," mid 80s during the day, 70's morning and night. I threw CELs here and there but I knew it was because of the midpipe so I wasn't concerned.
Then it got hot, and even hotter, and the CELs stopped completely. Not even in the morning or after filling up on gas.
Earlier this week a "cold" front came through that brought temperatures into the 70's for an entire day, 70's the following morning and 80's during the day. I had a CEL all day the first day and the morning of the next. It went away on my way home from work.
The CEL didn't bother me, I just thought it was odd that it had come on after a solid 3 months of being off. And it just so happened when the temperatures went down.
I'm wondering if anyone else with midpipes is noticing this? Any of you tech gods care to throw in your $.02?

hrmm interesting. obviously its not the actual temp outside, its how it affects the car.
Do you happen to know what the CEL code was? (system rich, system lean, catalyst below threshold, ect)
my guess would just be that the difference in air temp is affecting the eng temp/volume of air the engine is pulling in. so its changing the A/F ratio just enough to throw it ouside the 'acceptable' range.
thats my thoughts. Since the car is already looking for a rich condtion stock...maby the cold air is leaning out the mix enought to cause a CEL?
just a guess. im not really sure.
How is it temp wise there, last time I was in TX (my home state, born in san antonio) i was living in dallas for 3 years around 99-01.
I remeber 1 summer we painted a cookie sheet flat black and set it on the dash of my friends car and put some 'slice-n-bake' cookies on it, from about 12-2 they sat in the car, in the sun, at the grapevine mills mall. when we came out...fresh cookies...they were delicious

Lol, it's pretty much like that ^^. :D The rain has made the past couple days and today humid, but it's getting back to the 98-100 range this weekend. (can you sense my excitement? )
I've been fortuante to park in the shade the majority of the time at work which helps tremendously with keeping the car cool. One time when I didn't park in the shade and left my sun shade at home, the car thermo read 118! And that is very hot on your butt when you have leather seats!!
Your thoughts make sense... do you think the REVi is playing a role too? I didn't have that in April but I do now.

I think it's the lean code too. Most people are able to throw flames with midpipes b/c of the excess fuel and running rich. I've never really been able to throw very well. Oh well, at least it helps my gas mileage. :o

^^^ Don't think so. I've taken it in to a couple dealerships and haven't had a problem. And I don't remember saying there was anything wrong with the midpipe...
The overwhelming opinion is that all issues will be taken care of under warranty unless the probelm is directly caused by your mod, and then the dealership must prove this.
