Different kind of gas-related problem

I was reading up on the fuel capacity of our gas tank, and it's supposedly 15.8 to 15.9 gallons. After searching, I found that many users had put in more than 14 gallons periodically when they fill up. This surprised me, for I fill up when the low fuel light comes on (looks to be 1/16 of a tank remaining), and can generally put in 12.5-12.7 gallons, max. Here's the question - are there really more than 3 gallons left in the tank when the low fuel light comes on, or is there a bad sensor in my fuel tank somewhere that is triggering the light prematurely? Generally at 74 mph I can go about 245 miles before the light comes on.

Sources for fuel tank size:

Thanks for any help, I searched. If you could link me to a thread that would answer my question that'd be grand, otherwise tell me the search terms. I find it hard to believe that this hasn't been brought up somewhere somehow in one of the mileage threads or in the several years that this forum has been up.

Thanks,
Michael

Maybe its not good to starve an engine particularly a rotary, that's why the warning comes so early. There's about 6 litres left when light comes on, I can normally take a 20 km cruising after lights on.

Generally I put in about 13 to 13.5 gallons, but I usually drive a few miles (15 or 16) past the low fuel light.

I think one of the owners talked about this in the past when he actually ran out of gas. Still didn't end up putting 15 gallons in if I remember correctly.

So you don't think that it'd be worth talking over with my local dealer?

I usually have about 3 gallons left when the light is on. I guess it is good to know that i have about 40 or 50 miles left before i needa fill up.
