Angry Deflood Failure

I've done all the deflood procedures. Pulled the plugs, cranked until no fuel vapor. Put new plugs in and still not starting. Even tried some ether. After the plug change, It will start roll over but after a few turns the battery gets too weak (even with the truck hooked to it with cables) Gonna go ahead and change the starter because I know the stock starter is beefy enough. I'm just about damn positive this will get it started. Seen so many different starters on advance auto and auto zone websites but none list the RMPs. If you've changed to a more powerful starter how much was it and where did you get it from?

Can you pull start the car? It is the easiest way.

Here is some info as far as where to find a starter: https://www.rx8club.com/tech-garage-...tarter-179703/

You could also look at a junk yard and try to get one from a totaled rx8 (rx8s after 2006 have the upgraded starter). I bought mine from a forum member for $80. It came out of a totaled 2008 rx8. Have it for 3 years now and works like a champ (knock on wood)

Haven't tried the pull start. Don't know the thread size for the tow holes. Can you buy a hook that will screw into the holes?

You should have a tow hook. I believe it is in the trunk somewhere....How about have a few buddies push you? If it starts keep driving to the nearest gas station for beers

Deflooding might be a daunting task sometimes Pull starting is the easiest way. When you get it started (hopefully you will!!) keep driving around for a bit. Also make sure you pull your plugs out and clean them in case they are wet.

Yep everytime I had a failed start I done that. Pulled the plugs 5 or 6 times and cleaned em with ether. I'm sure the pull tomorrow will work but I'm gonna upgrade the starter anyways.

In addition to your starter and checking your battery, it might be a good idea to do a tune up. How many miles do you have on your plugs, wires, and coils? It seems like this is not your first time dealing with a flooded engine so maybe you need to change your ignition components...

Actually I don't know. I bought it in may from a dealership. When I got it, it fired right up. About three turns and I had fire. I knew when buying it what to look for to be sure it wasn't about to give decompression probs. Car has 78k on it and I noticed in last few weeks it's taken a little longer to start it. about 5 or six turns. sometimes it still fires after 3 but I'm gonna replace the coils and wires when taxes come back next month along with a midpipe. I shouldn't have been a dumass and shut it off before it was warm.

It could happen to everyone...Definitely change your coils, wires, and plugs. Starter could also be turning slow. Load test your battery as well. I would also suggest taking a look at your cat. If your cat is failing you can get a new one from mazda for free (there is a 80k miles/8 years warranty on cats). OEM cats are pretty expensive but if you can get a free OEM one why not do it. Then you could buy a midpipe and still have a good cat.

I thought the 8year 80k only carried over for the housing components in the event of decompression? I'm the 2nd owner of this car. Does the warranty carry over for another owner as well? I was wondering about this yesterday. I was plundering through the recalls. I have moisture in my taillights and it was a recall. Does Mazda have to cover this for free?

There is an 8yr 80k warranty on the cat, 8yr 100k warranty on the engine. Different warranties. Factory warranties carry from owner to owner with no additional work from you, although the more paperwork you have from the prior owner the better.

The tail light fix is a TSB, which means just a set of instructions to the dealer on how to resolve the problem. If there is a warranty active that would cover a TSB's solution, then it's covered under that warranty. No warranty coverage on it means it's just a set of instructions on how to fix it, and you get billed for the fix. Tail lights are in bumper to bumper warranty, which you are far past. There are several DIY fixes for cheap and/or free.

Your ignition will fail on average about every 30k, if not sooner. You might get longer, there are exceptions to every rule, but the penalty for ignition failure is quite high, so better safe than sorry. Ignition replacement (plugs, coils, wires) from the dealer is $400-500 in parts, that again in labor (typically). Parts are $182-$210 from vendors and parts stores, and an hour tops if you don't know what you are doing. Don't get raped at a dealer.

Flooding is a symptom that there is something wrong. Flooding is always caused by something else failing AND you shutting off cold. No other failures and you can shut off cold without issue. You still shouldn't, as it is best for any car, be it piston or rotary, is let it warm up before shutting off. But you CAN shut it off cold without flooding if everything is healthy. You only flood when something else fails and you shut it off cold.

So even if you get started again, your cause of the flooding still exists.

(And it's not "decompression", but "compression loss". Close, but not quite the same thing)

Make sure your Battery is good keep the car jumped and keep at it it took me an hour sucks but that's what I get for been in a hurry . I took plugs out 3 times ..

The dealer says is best to do this method .. I wouldn't try it but dealer says it works

Remove fuel relay
Keep trying to start car until battery almost dead
Jump car leave it for a bit
Try to start it over and over until it starts
Leave car on and your good .
