dead cat

recently replaced the plugs and coils, as there were long over do. i didnt replace the wires. the wires were in fine shape, no heat damage ect. but on a 200 mile trip this past weekend i noticed some bogging when i was on the highway at the gas station i looked and my cat was glowing like crazy. now all i see is people going to the dealer getting charged $1000-1500. found my cat at autozone for $330 and a local shop here will do the install for $100. is there anything at all so special about the dealers parts/labor that would justify the extral possible thousand dollars?. p.s. before i get trouble over the spark plug wires NOT being replaced, im a electrician. i tested them. they are with out a doubt perfect.

Cheers

The OE wires are rarely in fine shape, but that's your call

http://www.davesport.com/cgi-bin/davesport/DCAT100.html

The OE cat is ceramic and sustains damage easily. It is also grossly overpriced, but you do get a whole new cat pipe assembly rather than having to cut thd old one out and fab in a new one.

Depending on where you live and the local emissions requirements you may be required to use an OE cat to pass a visual inspection. The original OE cat also is warrantied for 80000 miles or a whole bunch of years (6?) which is what Easy may be alluding to.

its a 04 with 64k miles. i did a ohm test on the wires there fine for sure. i just don't want to get raped by the dealer for it. the replacements ive seen still have at least a 5 year warranty. i just wanted to make sure theres no real reason to go with the oem cat. since i can get the same probably better performance cat for less then half dealer price installed. although it will most likely be cutting the old one out and fabing in a new one. heres some im looking at http://www.autozone.com/autozone/cat...tic+&x=23&y=15

You should have warranty on the catalytic converter. *year/80,000 miles mandated by the EPA. Why would you get an aftermarket cat?
Did th edesler say you don't have warranty?
