Cricket sounding rattle in dash area

Anyone else have this type noise, sounds almost like a cricket, I cannot pinpoint its location exactly. I scanned the forum archives but didn't notice any similar type rattles posted. Mine is faint most of the time and increases when going over a rough road or bumps.

I have one that has cropped up in the drivers side window defogger. And one that is to the left side of the instrument cluster. If I put pressure on the cluster it will clear up, or if I press on the defogger (The little gill-looking slot above the air vent), it stops.

Its annoying. The most annoying is the rear view mirror. As it was very poorly made in my opinion. It has various parts holding it together and it constantly squeaks. And since it is high up on the window its squeaky sound reflects off of the glass making you think it is originating from elsewhere. Just squeeze the mirror and re position it - see if that isn't the cause of your problem. Good luck.

I have that SAME buzz on the left dash and when I press on the deffoger vent or dash it stops.

Does the right side of your sunroof rattle over bumps when closed?

My worst rattle noise is in the center dash/radio stack. It could sound like a cricket I guess, but mostly it's a metalic rattle.
Although I can tell where the rattle is now (center stack), I still can't confirm the exact source. In my case, I believe it's a screw retainer clip that is loose somehow or perhaps metal bracing resonating against the plastic dash material. I'm sure it has to do with the radio being removed and reinstalled by the dealer, as that is when the problem began. I'm done taking stuff like this to them to fix as they seem to break, scratch, dent something with each visit now.

I've never had a problem with the moonroof (knock on wood). And I had to remove my HU to have the firmware upgraded, it chirps on occasion. There is one really terrible yet widely used road here in Atalnta that would be better off being just gravel. I get more rattles after driving that road.

Anyhow, sometimes I get the cricket in the HU. I belivee it is either a clip or a grouping of wires rubbing up against the back of the unit. I'll have to pull it out and secure everything. There is also a bolt in the HU under the left drivers side that secures it to the panel. It is very hard to get out and I can't imagine getting it back in, I tried for hours without success. So I'll have to find someone with small hands. You should see if your dealer maybe left that bold out. It really locks the HU down good and tight to the dash.

If you have change in the change holder, remove it and re-check.

Is it your front bumper?

I have a similar noise and could have sworn it was coming from the passenger dash.

Turned out to be my bumper plastic rubbing against sheet metal at the corner lamps.

Squeaks, squeels and squaks

I don't know if i'm happy or discouraged to know that so many of you have the same noises I do. First one is on passenger side, either corner of the dash or in the door as part of the window assembly.

I've pushed, prodded, poked ... nothing stops it. Its worse at high speeds.

Second seems to be in the steering wheel assembly. That one annoys, cuz i thought it was my keys rocking around down there, but no.

Third is in the rearview mirror.

Taking it in in a week and will see, but i don't expect much relief from Mazda.

This seems to be the perils of buying a first year release.

But I hate all the noise, and with only 10k!

Tracked down my own annoying noise in dash.

Since my car as new, 5k on it now. it that annoying buzz when driving on rough pavement.

The dealer tried twice to find it, but didn't.

The other night the stretch of road I was on really got it to buzzing. When I pushed my fingers between the door and the dash, by the circular air vent, the buzzing stopped.

In poking around I finally found that by pressing outward on the door in the same area it would stop. The noise wasn't really in the dash, but the door.

Now to get that fixed permanetly.

Just wanted to pass this on so it might help someone else.

I've found my cricket-clicking sound goes nearly away when I push on the bit of plastic just behind the steering wheel - it's just behind the small gap where the air-bag cover connects...sorta...I'll try to get a pic.

also, if anyones car rattles over the bumps in the road ( I have a rental 8 while car is in the shop and it does it too) then push back the thin metal that is behind the brake rotors
